I lied to her. She doesn't know yet- but the guilt is eating me up. So I've decided that I'll write a letter to her. Problem is, I'm not quite sure how. She asked me if I had my essay 4 weeks after the due date, and I said that I had given it to her on time and we concluded that it must be lost. Truth be told- I didn't write the essay until 3 weeks after the due date, but I didn't tell her this because I did't want to risk being penalized for not doing the assignment on time... I do realize that now I'm in more trouble...How do I write this letter?

Don't write a letter...talk to her instead. Admit that you lied and that you are sorry and are willing to accept whatever punishment she decides is appropriate. You will grow a lot with this admission and her respect for you will grow even more.

You don't write it. You make time to see her after school and you ask to speak to her. You quietly tell her that you lied. That you were upset about not doing the assignment and that you lied about it. Tell her that you are very sorry and mean it. The fact that she was willing to call it lost, means that she was trying to be pretty understanding to begin with.
She will be mad, that's fine, you deserve it. But running away from the problem makes it worse and here's another thing you ought to know....She already knows you blew off the assignment. She is waiting to see what you do about it.
Be brave, go see her, yes you can do this. Then face whatever consequences there may be, you earned them.
Next time, do the assignment, it's easier than this garbage.

If you have a morale code that won't allow you to live with this then you are truley exceptional! But I'm not so sure it is practical to write this letter at this time. Go ahead and reap the benifits of your power of persausion for now. This is a trait that you will also need in the future dealing with many less than honest folks just to get ahead. Wait a few years and then write the teacher and you will know more and more about everthing in your letter. The teacher will then be more amazed at your perception, and you will be more amzed at yourself for actually writting the letter after that amount of time! SINCERELY!!!!

what is the point. she is just a teacher. she is nit your mother or your girlfriend.

just leave it.

just hand in the essay then there is no issue, just say you lost it and have written another one, or that you found it under the bed.. she doesn't need to know when u wrote it. she probably won't read it that thoroughly anyway, she probably has over 100 essays to go through from all your class and other classes.

stop fretting.

I'm so sorry but that missing essay was actually turned in 3 weeks late. Maybe this will mean a failing grade but my conscience is killing me. I know I should have owned up to this immediately but my grades are important to me and I wanted so much to do well on this essay. Please accept my apology.

She probably does know (or suspect) anyway. Teachers are good at sorting through the BS, and you don't come across like someone who would lie very well.

talk to her. honesty and taking responsibility for screw-ups is good for soul and character. this year's grades will be forgotten in a year or three... lies eat into the soul forever.

Well, I'd say screw the letter, don't tell the teacher, and be sure not to lie like that again.
You must have a real cream puff of a teacher who lets you pull that crap!

It would be better if you talk to her in person. Tell her how you fell about it. It won't be as bad as you think.
