Morality comes from evolution. Children are born amoral (because morality in children would be an evolutionary disadvantage) and they gradually acquire a moral sense as they mature (because then it *is* an evolutionary advantage). Religion cannot and does not explain morality, as you rightly say, but evolution does.

Incidentally, children do not 'learn' morality from their parents - many experiments show without a doubt that we all are born with roughly the same kind of moral sense, *regardless* of what we come to believe about specific issues later on.

Example: We all care more about the 'in-group' than the 'out-group'. As adults, some people think animals have rights and some don't, but this doesn't represent a fundamental difference in moral views, it just means that the animal rights enthusiasts include animals in their 'in-group' whereas other people do not.

When a baby is born their mind is a sponge, every thing you say or do it sinks into their head. Ever wonder why when you swear around a toddler they will most likely repeat what you said? A child learns everything between the ages of 1 to 3 from their parents actions. What you do affects the child. The bible just helps advance their morals to a more spiritual state.

From what ever s/he is exposed to. If they get a lot of the Bible they will have Bible morals. The same thing works with teachers tv and music even into adult hood. This is more social science.

They learn from their parents...and it depends on their belief system. Usually Christians are stricter in their rearing of the kids. But, that theory doesn't always hold water. It's the moral standing of those who are bringing them up that has the biggest impact. Then,...look out. Once they get into school, it's a whole new ballgame. That's where the deciding factor is, basically. The influence of the other kids. Wow...I'm sure glad my kids are grown. They both turned out to be good boys and I love them dearly.

Its from society. As a society we have values and morals that we try and teach to our children to ensure that our way of life is secure. Many people will tell you the bible teaches morals, but i think the morals it teaches are quite dubious.
Morals are not a constant of the universe, they are something humanity has created in order to sustain a society of law and order.

If not from parents then from school, TV, video games, Hollywood. Scary, isn't it? Maybe the Bible is a good textbook for morality when all else fails.

The TV. Just look at how many parents use the TV to babysit their kids.

Only places like Amish and other small groups are kids actually taught morals by the parents.

By his/her parents - until they reach the age they can interact with society - then at some point they may learn and adopt socially acceptable morals - whether their parents agree with those morals or not.

It is NOT the bible. It is the parents. Children learn everything (at first) from those they have the most contact with . . . thier parents.

Parents, movies, books, video games, rock stars, TV shows, other kids. Whoever kids look up to. Kids learn by example. They will emulate what they see more than what they're told.
