every black I know is so excited about a black man running for president but what is not being discussed at all is that his mother is as white as I am and his father wasnt even from the U.S.A His mother was a jayhawker from Kansas so he's technically a "mulatto" not a true "african-american" but no one seems to point that out can anyone tell me why?

People seem to have misunderstood your question and are slamming you for some reason. It's a legitimate question and I am sick of people assuming someone is a racist just because they talk about race and especially if they are white. White people get to talk about this too people!
So anyway...it's a big deal because people associate Bush with being how white people really are and are looking for anything that can be perceived as opposite. Also, America likes to label things and people to make the news headlines "easier to read." It's all marketing. Obama has some black heritage and wants to capitalize on the other Black citizens in the country. Some people vote the race card just like some vote for gender.

running a country is business, a big business, how much experience has osama had in business< 2nd lawyers are not known for good business men , they are inheirtently liars and theives, could you name one black that has ran a city , state, or any other elected poition where it was not so corrupt that no one could possible get any thing did, for example look at Rhoadesia, South Africa both had healthy economys with plenty to eat for all, since the blacks McGavy and Mandellla took over they are starving to death ,with A,I,D,S epidemic so bad it is estimated at least 60 % of the population will die by 2020 I remember when it was safe to walk down town in Atlanta,Macon, st louis. gary ind, cleveland ohio, detroit, toledo cincinatti, pitts burg, phiidelipha, biringham, or almost any city in the U,S, even a woman could walk the streets , since integraton and this civil rights B,S, came along and the blacks took over tell me one city that a man or woman can walk down safely even in the day time??? and now many of you wossies want to elect a black as president for this country?? why the hell don't you go to Africa or some other black ran country and stay for one week you damned sure won't vote for another black.consider the Islands how every one flocked to them for vacations etc before this **** started , what the hell are you people thinking?? now you can't pay some one to go to the Islands for a vacation.do you want America to be the same or are you so stupid and want to be P.C. THAT you would want this to happen here , what more evidence do you need?? this smooth talking jigabo sure has fooled a lot of people , part Muslim, part white, part black and a damned civil rights lawyer, a combination who no one in their right mind would ever consider voting for.unless they were Zionist who knows they can control him and have a free hand stealing more from America, Hell I thoght Bush was bad??

Ehh, I thought the presidential election is about voting for the most capable candidate to run this country.
Sen. Obama has been so popular has more to do with his achievements as a scholar/politician/person, his charisma doesn't come from his skin or facial features, it comes from his education/intelligence/believes.
No one knows at this stage of the game if Sen. Obama will be nominated or not, but focusing on whether he's really "African American" is really really missing the point.

Look at the man, not his race. It is not important whether he is white, black, mulatto or whatever.

What does he stand for.... whether he can govern.... can he make USA proud.....can he make policy decisions that affect everyone on the globe....

Get the big picture.
I couldn't care less if ....
He could have squinted eyes, one nostril, has a face only his mother could love. But, if he has all of the qualifications that makes him an ideal candidate, then he should be the next prez.

I see you like to put labels on people. What is your pedigree. Are you sure you are polly purebum american 100%.. You couldnt be unless you are 100% native indian. So your ancestors arrived from Europe. Obama does not have a problem..You do. I like the man and what he stands for myself. I dont care what color his skin is. He makes sense. Oh .. I cant vote in your elections. I doubt he would do worse than the alternative.

Actually several people have pointed it out. There was a black lady selling a book on Stephen Colbert's show that said that Obama wasn't African-American.

I am planning on voting for him not because of his color but because he is against the war in Iraq and is more honest than most politicians.

I think the problem with your analysis is that most African-Americans are mulatto at some point in their family line. The clear marker of commonality for most Blacks in the US is that at some point, if they are the descendants of slaves (and not all African-Americans are) there was probably an owner or owners child slipping off to the slave quarters for forced or consensual sex. Some would argue that even the consensual sex was rape in light of the actual or perceived inability of the slave to refuse. So, if the Black community is expected to disavow all those with a White ancestor, we are left with few representatives from our community.

Now if your point is that his father is not a slave descendant and therefore US Blacks should not consider him as one of "us", that requires a dissection of African from African-American that i find unnecessary, inconsistent, and offensive. Indeed, rather than referring to the community as African-Americans, the inclusive civil rights advocate would do well to simply us Black (including that capital "B") to include Caribbean, African, Canadian, Latina, and Asian members of the African diaspora.

At the heart of the answer is a simple fact...Obama identifies as African-American and has fought consistent with that identity. That is where the pride lies and that is why there are so many who are excited by the potential. To be sure, there are others who identify as African-American who are not as beloved or perceived as being loved by the Black community. Take Alan Keys, a traditional African-American who ran against Obama for the senatorial seat. The only thing he could hope to say to pull ahead of Obama for the support of the Black community was exactly what you have proposed ... he ain't even African-American. The problem -- of course -- is that Keys has acted in a manner perceived (rightly so, in my opinion) as inconsistent with the community from whom he was seeking support.

Because the people who get excited because a BLACK man is running cannot think beyond the colour simply in their face. They vote like a herd, not based on the context of what the person is saying but on his skin colour. If a black says they do not like BO, he or she is labled a traiter (for independent thought).

I guess that we have yet to reach the point where people are judged by the content of their character and not the color of their skin.
His parents heritage and ancestry aren't supposed to matter, not in this country. The fact is that as far as the white people to whom it matters are concerned, Obama is black.
