My cat has gone into labor at around 2 in the afternoon. She has given birth to 5 very healthy kittens and is being a GREAT mom. However, we felt one more inside of her, and it has been almost an hour and she hasnt shown anymore signs of labor. I read somewhere that if a cat is too stressed, they will wait till the next day to give birth to the rest. Is this true? Is it safe for that to happen? I dont want her to get sick from having a kitten left inside of her. I thought if there was one left it could do damage..

for those of you who think i am bothering the cat by checking on her, many times, cats who are first time parents to not know what to do and will get overwhelmed with multiple kittens coming out all at once. I had to help her open the sac and show her the embillical chord so she can chew it. There is nothing wrong with me being in there..
Also, she waited until I was up and out of bed and meowed at me until i came into her birthing place and had me sit there with her the entire time. If i had gotten up, she would come out and follow me meowing

It's true! My Shadow had 3 kittens during the night and the next day I found another in the box. I thought maybe it was stillborn or something. I dug a hole, put on my gloves and when she wasn't looking, I was going to sneak it out of the box. Imagine my surprise when it let out a loud meow! I almost had a heart attack! We named that one Lucky.Just keep a close eye on her and if she shows signs of distress or hasn't had it by the 3rd day then I would contact a vet to be on the safe side.

Your vet should've told you what to look out for and what to expect. If you have one available, call an emergency vet and ask them what you should do. If anything, they'll either tell you to bring her in immediately, or they'll tell you to let her be and wait until the next day, then take her to her normal vet.

Really though, you should be leaving your poor cat alone and let her finish giving birth and start caring for her kittens. If she's stressed, it's most likely because you keep checking on her and that's stressing her out. Let her be!

She might be stressed because you are not giving her enough privacy. I never understood why people insist on practicaly sticking their face up the cat's cooch when it's trying to give birth... they truly do better if you leave them alone for almost a day. If the kitten is still there after 12-24 hours, then you can worry... but stop checking up on the cat so much! She needs privacy to be relaxed.

Hopefully by now she has had the last one but if not give her until tomorrow then call your vet and get her in . Take the kittens with you when you go, they may keep her over night.

i think you should get to a vet. you never know something might happen...or it could be nothing at all...you don't know. don't take any chances because those kittens need their mother.
