This falls under the philosophy of religion.

I have read that it you principle of sufficient reason is where everything lies.

Basically it has to be self-explanatory, a necessary being, and a greater that can not be conceived!

I am a Muslim but if you are unsure of God's existance being fact or opinion then surely those above reasons will help you believe that God is a Fact!

Fact: "a truth known by actual experience or observation; something known to be true."

Hence the sun is a "fact;" we have all observed it, and give similar accounts of it.

Many people claim to have experienced God, without agreement as to particulars. In fact, it superficially seems as if no two people are describing the same phenomenon. Even where people generally agree in having seen, e.g. "Christ," the accounts of St Teresa represent a marked contrast with those of St Paul.

However, the same might be said, albeit to a much lesser extent, of different people's accounts of the sun. But we are able to separate out the obviously subjective impressions and arrive at what might be called a "scientific" definition.

But "God," by all accounts, belongs to a different "class" of phenomena. Everybody who claims to have "seen God" agrees that it's an experience in comparison with which the regular events of life pall. And even though the vision seems to take on an almost infinite variety of forms, there is a remarkable similarity between descriptions of visions, even across denominational boundaries. It seems simplest to assume that people are experiencing the same type of phenomenon, but that it tends to take on the form, or they tend to associate it with the form of the god/s they were brought up to venerate. A sees Christ; B sees Krishna; C sees Allah; etc.

To sum up, I think there IS more than enough evidence to consider "God" to be a fact; but sectarian training prevents people from looking at the phenomenon objectively and discovering what constitutes its essentials.

Fact.

2007-03-11 13:34:57 · answer #7 · answered by Anonymous · 2 3

Neither really. It is not fact as there is no empircal, irrefutable evidence that supports the existence of deities. And opinion is well opinion. When people say they believe in their deity they don't relegate that to an opinion, they relegate it to their faith.

Imagination

2007-03-11 13:42:01 · answer #9 · answered by Alex 6 · 1 0

Neither. Knowing God begins with hope...then becomes belief.....then becomes knowledge of Him personally through the Holy Spirit. This can not technically be called a fact because it is not provable to others who have not experienced it.
