When I was 17 I had 2 metal rods put in my back to help cure me of scoliosis. Now, I am 7 months pregnant, and I don't know how having the metal rods will affect me when I give birth. Some have told me that I will have a C-section others have said that I will have to give birth naturally, b/c i won't be able to have an epidural. Does anyone know or has anyone been in this situation?

most anesthesiologists will refuse to place an epidural because the risks are took great in your case. if your rods should become infected, that would be a catastrophic complication- imagine having to remove all that hardware...

you don't have to have a c-section. natural childbirth is very possible, but again remember that you probably won't be getting an epidural.

You're gonna be fine, sweetheart.

We've got about four million years of pregnant women who gave birth successfully without epidurals or C-sections. Haven't been there cuz I'm a guy, but my daughters have had similar problems.

And you're living in the 21st Century, follow the guidance of your doctors. That's why they're there.

Name the kid "Boomer".

OR NOT!

My best to you. Becoming a parent is the most wonderful experience you will ever have.

Talk to your OBGYN. I have several disks in my back that have problems. My first child I couldn't get a doctor to do an epidural. My second child I found a doctor that would. Do you have a MRI that was done before your pregnancy, with the metal rods in. That would help the Dr. to decide what to do. good luck!

I don't know what your doctor will have you do, but you don't have to have an epidural to give birth naturally. There are other pain killers they can give you.

Asking your personal doctor will be your best bet.
