Okay, my little bird, whom is a parakeet just had surgery today. She had a growth on his wing and they took it off, but now she's picking on her stitches and she keeps bleeding. I can't afford another vet visit unless absolutely necessary. Is there something I can do to help her?

Put a cone on her head- you can pick one up at the vet. Do not let her pull out the stitches. If birds bleed, they die pretty quickly, it siphons right out of them. Put some cornstarch on the bleeding if the cut is stil closed. If you can not make it to the vet, you can take a toilet paper tube, cut it down to size- just big enough so she can't reach it, and pad the insides with a sock. Cut it open, and tape it around her neck. She will be very mad, but if she keeps bleeding, she will die. She also runs a risk of infection if she keeps irritating it.

Please call the vet who did the surgery; they may have some suggestions for you. Its obvious how special she is to you. I dont know if they can somehow tape her wing or sometimes my vet used to use a piece of x-ray film and would make the birds we saw a little collar until the wound would heal. Please let us know how she does.

For heaven's sake -- how much personality (bird-ality) does your bird have?

Consider that they breed those birds like a factory - Beau Pilgrim doesn't hold a candle to parakeets.

You have a pure and good soul. But - another bird would cost ...What $15?

This is an answer that you can't ask on Yahoo - its an answer you have to search your soul. How much does that bird mean to you? More than $15 ?

Only you, and your God have this answer -- good luck, and God's blessings.

Get a cone collar for her. They make them for birds, too.
