I had the same question. The tire DID get away even though the official stopped it. I don't know how they were able to get around that one.

Similar to the "debris penalties" that come out right when Jr. or some others really need a caution, and then it turns out to be a hot dog wrapper or something on the track.

I don't think it's rigged, but I do think it is tilted towards the bigger sponsors/drivers. If Scott Riggs or some other mid level talent did that (let the tire get away) they would have been penalized.

No offense here people but your looking for something that isnt there. The official could have let the tire roll out onto pit road, however if that would have happened we would be discussing why the official let the tire roll out probably ending someones race. I think its a fence call it could have went either way, but Nascar did make the best call and didnt penalize him. Nascar is damned if they do and damned if they dont.

This is not the only time that an official had to lend a hand to a driver. It has nothing to do with favorites. It happens all the time, if there is an official and he can stop the tire for the team he will do it. I see it all the time. The job of the officials is not only to penalize teams it is for safety first. Why just let the tire roll?

Johnson's pit crew lost a tire twice. He only got penalized once. That's because Johnson can do no wrong to Nascar. Which is total bull. The announcers think he's God but he's not. Someday they might get smart!

Something about it didn't go past the outside halfway point- judgement call ? If the Nascar official hadn't stopped the tire , who knows where it would have stopped? I know by doing so he probably averted a hazordous situation. But why no penalty ? It makes a sport I love look fixed!!

i think the fact the official stopped the tire made everyone wonder what was going on because for most teams thats a penalty i wonder if kenseth or kahne would have got the same break they got shafted at daytona when gordon who is a teammate to johnson got by there to so maybe nascar does play favorites i know the hendrick people will be angry at me saying this but after the incident today you gotta wonder

Nascar always will give breaks to their "favorite" drivers.
Surprised that Nascar even penalized Jr.

I would like to know why the NASCAR official stopped the tire before it rolled out into pit road. I hate 48, even twice as much as 24.

Yeah! That would have been a penalty if the official hadn't grabbed it and saved his butt. That's interference and someone should be checking it out.I'd sure like an explanation from NASCAR.

Only losers come up with excuses why they can't win. Hendrick motorsports has the best drivers in the world. There is no Hendrick / Nascar conspiracy. If there were, Kenseth would have been penalized for spinning out Gordon last year after leading pretty much the entire race... Vickers would have been nailed for spinning out both Johnson and the golden boy (Jr) at Dega last year. Lick your wounds, go home, and try to do better next week.
