I think Oscar has no chance. He can not win the big fight. Also he is to preoccupied with other things like promoting.

This is a very good question. Before I answer it, however, I want to make a reference to one of Oscar de la Hoya's fights that happened over 10 years ago. If you remember well, at the time he fought an older, declining Pernell Whitaker where he took his title in a 12 round unanimous decision. The fight was mildly controversial in the sense that the judges score cards didn't reflect how close the fight indeed was. Larry Merchant the popular sports writer/commentator even made a comment towards the end of the fight suggesting that even if Whitaker lost he would have proved his point of how good a fighter he was by landing more punches over all and frustrating the younger, stronger star in Oscar de la Hoya. Fastforward to the present and we have the possibility of the same scenario emerging. A younger, sharper Mayweather vs. an older battle weary Oscar de la Hoya. Now although you have to grant Floyd Mayweather jr. credit for is highly developed boxing IQ what he doesn't have that de la Hoya has is the wisdom from the cummulatie experience of fighting in fights that have meant something - real fights - where he has had to pick himself up and sort himself out through heart, through reflex and through determination. So does de la Hoya stand a chance? Well the answer is, yes, a damn good one! And unlike Pernell Whitaker he as already started with the appropriate tactical preparations before the fight by ensuring the ring is larger and that Floyd must meet a certain weight before the fight. The possibility of a knock out is minimal in this match-up, but if anyone is capable of doing it in this fight it is Oscar with his size and already-tested punching power at 154. He is going to have to learn a new game, however, one that hasn't been his style historically; that is, he must pin Mayweather in the ropes lean on him work his body and wear him down for the later rounds if he wants to accomplish this task of knocking him out since hitting a fresh mayweather is like swatting a fly with a two-by-four in midflight. This should be his strategy too if he wants to win on points, at least for the first part of the fight. The ultimate scenario will boil down to this if you would like a prediction: Oscar will do a combination of his traditional boxing and some of the above while floyd will hit Oscar from obscure angles with quick counter punching throughout the fight. The punch volume will be greater for Oscar but connect percentage and possibly volume lower. The descision will go to the score cards and one of the fighters will be happy and it might quite possibly be de la Hoya if he plays his cards right. But at the end of the day even if he loses the match, de la Hoya, like Whitaker, will really have lost nothing. He has already solidified his legacy, fought great fighters and had a great career. I hope we see a close fight with some good technical boxing and some solid entertainment. Maybe these two can revitalize the sport with a solid performance and a potential rematch. I hope my long winded answer helps you out my friend.

I think he has a small chance, if he can keep up the tempo that mayweather will set he has a decent chance of pulling off the upset. Otherwise i think he maybe out of his league, mayweather is just too fast and too accurate of a puncher and de la hoya may have lost a step or 2 to be able to get away from mayweather.

No De La Hoya doesn't have a chance again Floyd Mayweather, Jr who win the bout.

We will see if Mayweather's power will transition into a heavier weight class. If it does then he will win because his speed is superior, if it does not and De La Hoya can take the shots, he has good enough technical skills to compete with any fighter in the world and was holding his own against Hopkins even though Hopkins was bigger. De La Hoya's only been KO'ed once, many believe he won the Trinidad fight, many people believe he won at least 1 of the Mosley fights and those are great fighters he has lost to, so I would'nt totally count him out.

I think he has a legitamte chance. He is just 4 years older and has really only been beaten definitively by one man -- Bernard Hopkins. Who really was a fighter who should be a couple weight classes ahead of Oscar. Oscar is more comfortable at the weight class than Mayweather who has been steadily moving up in class. Also Oscar is a smart and disciplined fighter. When the fight was first signed I thought he would get beaten soundly but the closer it gets the better I like his chances. I believe it will be more competitive than many think. Oscar might expose some weaknesses in Floyd critics have yet to pick up on and will also test that chin of his.

Oscar has a puncher's chance against a smaller man. Mayweather's speed and quickness will make it a rough night for Oscar. Soon we will know, this is a big one, and the blogbaba is looking forward to it.

Of course the Golden Boy has a chance to win this fight. He has the weight, power, and strength to beat loud mouth, showboating Mayweather. We will all see May 5th.

At first I thought he lose decisively, but now that Floyd is getting under Oscar's skin I'm leaning toward him. Floyd is not know to be a heavy puncher and he moved up in weight to fight Oscar. If Floyed doesn't run alnight I'm going with the Golden Boy.

Maybe DLH has a chance--about 40% if we take into account Floyd's weight increase and the Golden Boy's experience.
