Parents everywhere, if you've seen Supernanny and you see the types of kids on that show, then I ask of you how you avoid your children turning out that way. What steps can you take to avoid out of control children?

Everybody is different, in fairness, and there are always underlying causes to the problems in those households. But I see two recurring themes that really get me - giving the children attention, and discipline. Those two things have worked wonders for me.

don't spoil them too much. it's okay to spoil them a little but do it to a certain extent. many parents over do it. you can buy them things or do something they ask, but at the same time you need to let them know that they can't always have what they want all the time.i think the thing parents and children need to learn (especially some parents) is the word "NO" and because parents don't say no sometimes that's how you end up with kids like the ones on super nanny/nanny 911.
so parents say No sometimes because if you don't they will run all over you. oh yeah if both parents are involved it's important that you both agree on a decision about something your child asks for. another result of the nanny children is because one parent would say no to something and the other says yes. so make sure that you communicate to find the best solutions to avoid a situation between you as parents.
it also wouldbe a great idea to make them work for what they want. use what they ask for as a reward for something they do on their own or for completing a tasks that you have asked them to do. it would be fun for them(if you have smaller children) and it's a good way to get some house work done(lol).

Hi there. Discipline. About every time I go the store with my children I get compliments on how well behaved my children are. And they are. They are so good and well mannered. We discipline our children. We don't spank... but we are strict on certain things. Alot of parents let their kids run their lives, tell them what to do, tell them no, hit them, yell at them, ect... I see it alot and I just shake my head. I don't know how anyone can have their children disrespect them so much. Its like they are the adult and can do what they want and get their way. Oh no, not for my husband and I, WE are the boss. We don't let our children walk all over us. I know what you mean by Supernanny, my husband and I tried watching that show and as soon as we seen how those children acted, we just looked at one another with eyes wide open and think god we are so lucky. Its the parents fault. They don't do their job as a parent. that's my opinion.

1. Be a parent not a friend.
2. Spend quality time with them without material objects (toys and gifts).
3. Make them see how the majority of the children in the rest of the world live in poverty.

Unfortunately most parents value money and kids pick this up from parents and become demanding, entitled brats. We reap what we sow.
