A lover is someone who you love and who you sleep with (unless there is no opportunity).
A soulmate (originally a Greek concept) is the person you were meant to be with for the rest of your life as ordained by the gods, fate, God, or whatever other name you want to put on it.
You do not "become" a soulmate - you either are, or you aren't.

It's way different, as said before, soulmates, if exist, they just are, they comprehend, trust and love each other entirely and everlastingly. You'd marry without a doubt and in a heratbeat. They just feel each other, intuitively know each other, they KNOW they WILL be there for one another.
A lover, well you might have sex and serious relationship but it ends up just there and it doesn't go beyond, could be anyone. A lover is for casual sex, a soulmate is for a life, maybe you even met during your past lifetimes.
Yes, your present lover could turn out to be your soulmate but a soulmate would not be willing to meet you just as a lover. But what do we know, it's you who is in love, aren't you? So make sure what you both want and decide

I never really liked the word lover because of its connotation, however, a soumate is just that..DEEP into your soul! So deep, that it isn't about being a lover in the least. You know right away that this is true. You have a connection like you two just got off a rollercoaster together! A soulmate experience is totally emotional, and the optimal.

Soulmates are ones who think like you and know what you will do at certain times, lovers just love for what you are.

Soulmate, is a hippie term for a person that loves everything you like to do but you never committ, cause that will ruin the relationship ..which is pretty much a copout. A lover doesn't have to love everything you like its just a temporary sexual attraction. Sometimes they combine but its rare.

Well...um soulmates are when you really love someone and when you would do anything for them. And being a lover are many definitions to.

a lover is someone that you make love with --- it may be serious it may be casual -- it can be just for fun --- a soulmate by definition just is --- you cant "make" someone your soulmate you just are --- soulmates can become lovers --- lovers do not become soulmates generally
