I agree with you that a lot of people, who appear to be a bit on the young side, tell all kinds of info on here that they should not.

I have tried to play "Mom" to some and warn them, but I don't know if they will pay attention or not.

I have seen several incidences where people are searching for family members, and instead of just asking a question for help in general terms they tell all manners of family members names and where they have lived and their parents names and on and on.

It just worries me. Yes, I am a Mom, and even though the Internet is a fantastic thing in most of our lives; you are open to all of the good and the bad; so caution and careful thought is needed.

I can only hope that the young people I have tried to caution truly listen, and don't just shut out what I have to say and call me an old interfering broad under their breath.

Welcome to YA, it can be lots of fun, and a great learning experience. I enjoy helping people, that is why I am on here.

Have a good night.

Totally agree.
My name is M. J. McDonald, and I live in Antartica, and I occasionally go to school with polar bears.
My friend actually posted her school, and area, and age, to a 36 YEAR OLD! And he told her he was 36!!!

I had to cover for her, and pretend to 'spill' her true info, which was, in fact, false. So now I look like I've never read an article on Myspace, and internet safety, but she's safe. Sorta. Unless she goes and tells him that I was lying, and he believes her, and they both marry in Kurdistan. Or the Bahamas.

I agree only for children shouldnt reveal but if we on here creating friendships ect has adults we let the chance of meeting someone good. I belive by living in fear and shadows I belive we empower the pretotors and they win. I belive there more good people then bad. YOu should proceded with cation but still not be afraid to open your self up.

Absolutely, never reveal ANY information about yourself on here that could be used to identify you in any way.

No real names, addresses, emails, phones, schools, work, etc, nothing at all.

It's for your own good.
