BMI was first made up more than 20 years ago, and now somebody decided to pull it off the shelf and use it as a guide as to how over/under weight the ideal Brit should be.

It really is a load of c**p, but none of the Health Care professionals will admit to it.

Its a way of measuring how healthy your weight is-- are on the spectrum of weight and height--when divided by eachother. Its medical in origin. My mum's a nurse and we have had a BMI chart on our bathroom door for about 5yrs. You can get the chart for nothing from health centres (in the uk free healthcare) or on a health related website there are BMI calculators, so dont pay for it! It should be used to tell if ur medically underweight, average or over, not to make sure you stay right at the bottom just to be vain. U can work urs out on ur own if u have the maths formula but I cant remember such boring things....

I don't know. BMI sucks anyway, because it compares your weight to your height. Therefore a guy can be super muscular and healthy and the BMI will show him as overweight. It can't differentiate between weight from fat and muscle. As you get stronger and workout, muscle has more mass so you could be dropping fat and gaining muscle and looking at the BMI you would think something was wrong. Or you could be losing muscle, but gaining fat and it may not even change. Its stupid to begin with cause you can tell if you too fat or thin by looking at yourself.

In short it's because it's an anomaly. It's like clear 'Pepsi' or green ketcup. Get your *** back to basics if you know whats good for you. Who cares about "BMI" focus on your lean muscle mass.Chao.
