I'm kind of upset because I've had stellar credit score for over a year now, and then some stupid company with their trial product that you can return if you don't like it decided to ding my credit report with a collection notice despite my having returned the product.. What should I do help?

Did the company bill you for the product before sending you to a collection agency?

If so, you should try contacting the company to verify they got their product back and resolve it from there. If not, they cannot collect something they never tried to collect themselves first I am pretty sure (just makes sense).

If they did bill you, you should have disputed with the company then and there--usually the more hard-nosed you are with a company the more willing they are to just please you.

You can also try disputing it with the credit bureaus--sometimes this works.

You can also try disputing the collection with the bureaus.

Hope this helps!!!

Have you contacted this company and talked to them? How did you send the product back? Did you have a tracking number or was it registered? If you can track the shipment and prove they recieved it PRIOR to the end of the trial period, then they should honor their advertisement and not charge you anything. If you cannot track it, then you may have to just pay the fees anyways. Either way, I suggest calling them to find out what really happened.

If you didn't return it by registered mail you have no proof you returned it ... just pay the money and learn a valuable lesson.

Send a strongly worded letter to their legal department, saying you will be hiring counsel
