One rule that hasn't been broken yet is that all camcorders with a Firewire port are 4 pin, however, whatever device you're plugging the other end into could require either of them.

If you're going from cam to cam, then 4 to 4. Cam to PC, 4 to 6. A 4 to 6 pin Firewire cable should have come with the purchase of the camera. If you're looking to buy a cable, easiest way is to just get a Firewire cable that comes with adapters to convert 4 to 6 and vice versa.
