The skin on my thighs is all bumpy, kind of like goosebumps, only permanent. What can I do about it?

You have a form of skin Keratosis that is extremely common in people. It is called keratosis pilaris.

All it is is the keratin (not to be confused with Carotene,a skin pigment) collects in your hair follicles blocking them. Karatin is the natural protein substance on your skin's surface that makes it durable. You have it only on outer epithelial tissue (also known as the lining tissue of body parts). Therefore, you do not have keratin on the lining of your organs or mucus membranes. So Keratosis pilaris can in theory occur anywhere there is keratin and compartments for it to get trapped in.

The collections appear as tiny white balls in the follicles with a coiled, "trapped" hair under each of them. I've had them from time to time on my back (I have extremely dry skin and I can't reach my back with my loofa, I'm assuming that my dead skin collects blocking the hair follicles and may not be keratin or true Keratosis Pilaris), but some people have them permenntly on their arms and thighs and other places like the face which is confused as acne. They're rough and can be scooped out with your finger nail. Using a loofa every time in the shower, if you skin isn't sensitive, can alleviate some of he problem on a daily basis. Use moisturizers and get a little sun exposure where the skin is affected. This will alleviate the symptoms but will not cure it. There is actually no cure for this, but the condition is extremely common.

However, symptoms are known to disappear with age.

Good Luck.

I know exactly what you're talking about. I have it too, and on my arms AND legs. I have no idea how to get rid of it, but don't pick at them. That leaves scars. I've had them for years.
