well if you had any witholding and you would like it back i suggest filing because you may qualify or low income exemption...if you had no withholding it is questionable if you would have any liability because i do not know how many dependents you have or if you are itemizing?

It depends on your filing status, deductions, adjustments, and dependents, and the source of the income, among other things. If you are filing as single, then yes you have to file a federal return, and will probably have tax liability unless you have at least one dependent. If you are married filing a joint return and that's the total income between the two of you, then no you don't have to file, and will have no tax liability unless $400 or more of that income is from self-employment - if it is, you have to file.

Whether you have to file a state or local return or not depends on where you live.

If you worked and taxes were taken out of your pay (W2) or you worked under a 1099 you need to file. Chances at that pay level; you will probably get most if not all of it back. Seek more information from a tax advisor.

If you have received a W-2, you will need to file. I believe the income limit for not needing to file is $2,000.

Whether you have to pay or not is up to your individual situation, but you have to file.
