I love the car, dealer offered to take the car back but I dont want that. It is a nice 2004 Honda civic. AC installation will cost me $1800. Do I have any recourse? Please help! I live in CT

Yes your recourse is to return the car to the dealer.
If you keep the car it signifies that you accept the car in the condition that you bought it in.

It could be argued by the dealer that listing A.C on the sticker was a simple clerical error. He did the responsible thing by offering to take the car back so you could find the car that meets your criteria. If you decide to keep the car after all, then legally it's no harm, no foul the way I understand it.

I seriously doubt it.
The dealer partially covered his butt by offering to install it.
He can say that it was an honest mistake on his part and that the lack of an air conditioner should have been obvious to you when you were considering the car - not a genuinely kosher stand, but it could fly - unless the sales person told you that there was air conditioning.
You might be able to wheedle the dealer down a bit, but I don't think that he's 100% law-bent to do it free.
That's the trouble with civil law, a lot of twists and turns.

You bought a car and didn't notice that it didn't have A/C? Is that right? Now you want them to pay for A/C? Is that right? Yeah....you have recourse....check out the car a little more before you buy one next time. Little things like A/C, tires. an engine...you know...stuff most folks like in a car. If the dealer offered to take the car back you're real lucky, most of them would tell you like it is...tough luck...."caveat emptor"

You have had some conflicting answers, but most are correct - you cannot be arrested for this. It's a civil matter, not a criminal one, the cops don't care. That said, they can and probably will come after you for the debt of the loan, you are legally obligated to pay it off. Expect to get sued here, and you will lose, you don't have a leg to stand on.

You can try going back to the dealer and see if they will discount the air conditioning package.

However, as someone else here aptly put it.... by all means DO check these things out before buying a car. What else did you miss? Did it have brakes?

Good luck!

It's a civil matter and not a law enforcement issue. You would have to sue the dealer in civil court and hope for a judgement.
