I started taking prozac. I have to take it daily in the morning. Does this mean it works on a daily basis, and if I dont take it one day, I'm going to feel the effects during that day?

No...you can safely skip a day of Prozac without ill effects...

Be careful not to do this too often as your continued feeling of well being depends on maintaining a normal level of Serotonin in your brain.

Which is how Prozac & Zoloft work..

They're called SRI...Serotonin Re-uptake Inhibitor... because they iinhibit your body from metabolizing too quickly the Serotonin every brain produces.

This allows a therapeutic level to be achieved in your brain which will produce a feeling of well-being for you.

You will not feel euphoric or drugged...you will feel normal...that's why anti-depressants are NOT controlled drugs: They do not produce the high of controlled drugs. And they normally take two to three weeks to produce the desired, maximum effect.

Good luck to you...you're doing the right thing for yourself & everyone your love by continuing to be compliant with your doctor's orders.

Peace-

Once you have been taking it for a few weeks, if you skip a day you probably won't notice a difference. If I skip my antidepressant, I do notice a little dizziness, but I take Cymbalta, not Prozac and every drug is different.

You won't notice a difference if you have just started taking it or if you have been taking it a while.

You may want to put an extra pill somewhere. Either carry it with you, leave one at work, put one in your car, etc. This way if you leave the house without taking your medication, you can quickly get the extra pill and take it.

Sure if you have been taking it daily , you'll have withdrawal and if you take long enough . You end of having to go to a hospital to be treated properly to get you off of it, rehab center.

anti-depressants take two to three weeks to fully work, so missing one day will not harm at all.
