I have been taking Lorazepam & Zoloft for 2 years and he suddenly stopped refilling my prescription. I thought I was supposed to be weaned from these medications, but no one will return my calls at his office regarding this. I'm changing doctors, but I've heard there can be some bad side effects from this. Is that true?

I've been seen by the doctor about 15 times since December for another issue (that he did not diagnosis correctly and I had to refer myself to a specialist).

Wow those are some pretty powerful drugs. Since you are seeing another doctor tomorrow I would not worry about any side effects. I think I would talk to your new doctor and let him/her know what happened. I also think I would file a grievance on your old doctor. Hope all works out.

Yes your doctor should have weaned you off bothese drugs. Go to the other doctor as soon as you can, you can have withdrawals from the lorazepam and get very depressed when the zoloft starts leaving your body.

Yes you should be weaned from these medications and it make no sense at all why they would not return your calls unless they've been sued or shut down by the state. But in any case someone should be contacting you. Get help from another source soon. If nessecary go to your regular physician and explain to him or her what has transpired.

Zoloft is not controlled and it is irresponsible for him to stop refilling that. Here is a good online pharmacy if you want to keep some extra on hand:

They sell the generic and real Zoloft. It is a reputable pharmacy. No shipping charges. But, they don't sell controlled drugs.

Could it be that you're due for an appointment? Sometimes my Dr's office will not refill because I'm due for a check-up. Of course, if this is why, they SHOULD have told you!!! Yes, it is not recommended to stop abruptly.

Yes, your doctor will stop prescribing if you have not been to see them for awhile. Because it is a controlled substance they are not permitted to do so. Had you told him you were leaving? You need to be established with your new Dr before making that announcement.
