why the batteries for calculator have almost the same price as the calculator itself?

i bought my sharp calculator with 10 $ and the two batteries are at least 6$, besides the replacing batteries are hard to find. Shall I buy a new calculator?

Yes buy a solar powered one. Your calculator was so cheap because the makers new you'd have to come back for batteries again and again. They do that kind of thing.

It is the same with many things eg. printer & ink
