I put hair gel so my hair could spike up, but later in the day, the hair spikes die and they come back down slowly. In order to prevent this, should I blow dry my hair after putting on gel or no?

No, that's a bad idea as it will ruin your spikes before you even get out the house!!

After washing your hair, blow dry on a cold/lukewarm setting and point the hairdryer upwards around the edges of your crown. This will make it spiky already, then apply sleek on wax instead of gel (gel is very heavy, and make spikes drop), and twist upwards. Voila! Great spikes!! You can easily just twist them back up if they start to fall (unlikely, but they might if you hair is very long), as wax is remouldable ^_^ Good luck honey!! x x

You probably need a hair gel with a stronger hold. Hair glue works! Blow drying is also a good idea, if the spikes are still damp gravity can pull them down more easily before they dry. The heat also helps set the hair in the shape you want (ie spikes!). Blow drying does not noticeably damage hair... People are too paranoid about that! Especially if your hair is short enough to spike you probably won't notice any damage from blowdrying. If you do, just stop doing it. But blowdrying on the hot setting is a really good way to shape your hair and make it stay.

I never blow dry. There is no such thing as using too much of a product on your hair, as long as you like the smell, so carry more with you, and plaster it up again later in the day as needed

i might purchase a smoothing/straightening cream. John Freida makes a solid one. in the adventure that your hair is unquestionably wavy, you may prefer to apply a ceramic flat iron to straighten your hair. many women folk use those with great effects. Does your hairdresser supply you a blowout once you have your hair shrink and styled? i comprehend it is not worry-free to attain the seem of a blowout at domicile, so i might advise you purchase a ceramic flat iron. they are able to be pricy regardless of the incontrovertible fact that, yet they are good, much less unfavourable on your hair than typical flat irons, and supply you the salon seem at domicile without the value.
