Picture the audience naked...it puts you at ease!

I can remember writing a good essay in high school, being asked to read it before a class of probably thirty people, and being so terrified that the teacher had to give up on me. I went outside and would not go in. My palms were sweating, my heart was palpitating, and I was literally scared stiff. So, I know what it is to be afraid. Hope your case is not as severe. If you can find the courage to get up there any at all, you should do it. I am sure you really want a part in the play. Do not let fear keep you from going for it. If you do, you may look back at this time in your life with regret. I am sorry that I cannot give you any tips for overcoming your fear while you are on stage, but I noticed that you did get some from others (picturing the audience naked, not looking at them directly, etc). Please, take advantage of these and do not deny yourself this opportunity.

I know how you feel. I'm always in the spotlight and I hate to be. I get so nervous. I have to sing and my voice gets shaky in front of a big crowd. If I'm not singing, I'm giving a speech or reading a poem or acting in a play. I've also always wondered what to do. Most of the time, I just go to my "happy place" or I don't look at the crowd but maybe once or twice and I'll look down or something like that. If you are in a position where you want to make eye contact, don't focus on one person. Look around. Think about something good. This should help.

focus on a non-human object (the back wall, distant crowd were you cant tell individual faces ect) but dont make it obvious that thats what your doing and i assume its not a musical so why does it matter if you can sing or not (your voice doesnt have to be perfect)

practice in front of small groups you are familiar with. your family, friends, etc. gradually make the group larger.

Force yourself to do it enough times and you will lose the fear.
