My time for the mile right now is 8 minutes 30 secs. Is that horrible? Also does anyone have any tips to help bring my time down further?

Lol. dude thats pretty good. Mine is 9:10. You are about average, not extremely fast, not extremely slow. But don't sweat it. I'm in 7th grade and mine gets better every year so I would assume it will do the same for you as you get older.

average? average people don't run track.

8 minutes sounds good for a kid in middle school. I'm .. well lets just say a few times older than you... I am about average (out of shape but used to be a good runner) and male.. but I meerly put out a 6 minute mile tops.. i mean absolute best with nothing left. When I ran, 5 minutes. I out do many-most of the younger people I run with. My wife runs a bit.. and is about a 7th grader height :).. she runs about a 7 minute.

So yea.. 8 minutes is probably a good goal for a shorty.
But dont stop there.. the record is under 4 minutes.. go for it.

I think it's less then 10 minutes. I know that 4 miles is about 20 or more minutes.
