When will each of these champions start fighting worthy competition? If the only worthy competition is fighting each other to unify the titles, then what the hell are they waiting for? Hell to freeze over? Or is it that they lack the killer instinct? Are they fearful of fighting worthy opponents or each other because deep down they know they lack the skill to win the title back if they lose it. Therefore losing their mealticket? Or is that they are hesitant or afraid to lay it on the line and achieve greatness? Let's face it folks this is the sorriest state that the heavyweight division has been in since the 1930's. To earn the title of great fighter in this current era of heavyweights you've got to unify the title.

It's a sad situation. They just keep fighting average opponents, so they can keep their titles. And I think there are some very good heavyweights that would fight the best opposition if they held the title. The fans are more than ready to see a unification, or at least some big names fighting for the titles. I personally wouldn't mind seeing a unification tournament. Take the four champs (if that's what you want to call them) and the top four deserving contenders, and winner takes all. But unfortunately that's not likely. Also I think everyone has a bad feel of the heavyweight division because their is no dominance. I don't know if there is a heavyweight out there that could completely dominate the division. Since Lennox Lewis retired it's been a mess. However I still like watching the big guys and I hope for the best.

I know it doesn't seem like it but Austin WAS the NUMBER 1 ranked heavyweight in the IBF (or was it IBO?) . So to say that Wladimir is ducking fights is a load of crap since he just fought a number 1 contender. Maskaev fighting Vitali is not ducking a hard fight either. Valuev (basically ranked #4 in the world) is fighting Ruslan Chagaev (ranked #12 in the world).

Briggs (#5) is fighting Ibramov (#19). Chris Byrd (#9) is fighting Terry Smith who isn't even in the top 40. Out of the top 20 heavyweights, there are 9 that have no scheduled fights. Granted that some of them fought in the last 3 months, but I know that not all of them have. Even for the last 6 months. Don't blame the top fighters for ducking fights when it's the rest of the top 20 that is slacking.

Ive read in an English newspaper today that Wlad is calling out Valuev, now i don't know how the politics would work on this one (i mean it will probably not materialize) but i would say that this would be a match up that we are actually waiting to see, how long can these so called champs keep avoiding each other, the big TV companies must realise soon that we are not interested in watching these champs in against mediocre opponents just because they are that desperate to cling on to a title, lets finally get em in against each other and see if any of them are actually worthy of being called champ.

Right now the heavyweight division is a joke as none of these guys will fight each other. I don't see any interesting fights particularly without them at least fighting. I do think that they are afraid they will lose their mealticket as you say if they lose so they are definetly hesitant. I think that boxing even in the 30's was better than it is today.

I don't blame the fighters so much, I think it's the business end of it. Like you say, the different boxing organizations have got to get it together and unify the title. Actually, it could be a good opportunity for somebody with deep pockets to schedule an independent series of bouts that would draw talent from everywhere.

Yep, really Russian's. Blogbaba would like to see them unify the titles as well, it would be nice to have a real heavyweight champion again, instead of a bunch of ABC's each with a piece of the title ducking the competition. Unfortuantely it's about $$$ not boxing with most of them.

Time will tell.

There are some many different Belts. Once one gets one it is their meal ticket. They dont want to loose it or the council doesnt want to loose it to a person outside there group. A weight class-one belt. One champ...Thats the only way to get good fighters from each class to fight each other. Champ fights the next in line. Duck someone and loose the belt. Period.

Why does everyone put the russians down? Is it because they are not american or do not have the correct ethnic background??? I cant think of any other reasons. I do think they need to fight each other and eventually will but you guys are saying they are ducking the competition. WHAT COMPETITION??? We just saw Waladamir Klitzcho knockout Austin this weekend. He has already beaten Peters, Brock, etc. and will beat Briggs this year. Toney is washed up and cannot defeat anyone. Holyfield is making a joke of his career. Who else is there to fight them or give them competition?? Vitali is coming back to fight Maskuev and will regain his title. There you go two russians fighting each other. Happy??

I think they have no heart. they are to afraid to lay it on the line, because if they do they know they wont make the money anymore. But what they dont relize is thats what makes great fighters. They will never be great if they dont start fighting each other.

No, MMA has no longer truly replaced boxing in acceptance. How can we be particular? properly, it truly is rather common: a) evaluate the quantity of funds and different commercial entities generated and fed on by technique of the PAYING public from boxing activities and MMA activities. Boxing leads. b) evaluate the media and public attraction drawn by technique of each activity global. Boxing leads. (the major note the following is "global," no longer "some states contained in the U.S.") c) evaluate the status/popularity that elite boxers attain to the status held by technique of elite MMA warring parties. it truly is nonetheless boxing--no longer even close. As a activity, boxing is already appropriate--it truly is been so for most, many many years while MMA continues to be rather "new" and attempting to achieve popularity global huge. How can we make it more suitable appropriate? by technique of cleansing up the score equipment and the governing bodies. by technique of creating fights take position subsequently of income/status, no longer in reality by technique of the whims of promoters and human being warring parties, and the seize of massive money.
