About 3 to 5% of hens' eggs have double yolks. They're perfectly safe to eat, but not recommended for baking when the measurements must be precise.

Its actually not that uncommon. You just can't usually buy them in the grocery store. We raise chickens, and get an egg like that once every couple weeks or so.
If the eggs were fertilized, they would be twins.
It's completely safe, just remember that it is like eating two eggs, since the yolk is the part of the egg that is most accounted for in nutrition information. You're getting twice the colesterol!
Also, I wouldn't recomend using it in baking, because it might mess up the ratios, and your recipe could possibly turn out wrong.

It's fine to eat a two-yolked egg. Some chickens just lay eggs like that! Most of them are found in the processing (eggs are "candled" to check their structure), so they don't make it to the store. But they're perfectly safe to eat!

Those are completely safe to eat. Twins, baby.

It's fairly common if you buy your eggs in the countryside, direct from farmers or farmers' markets.

They're good if you like yolk. I like yolk better than whites, so if I get that, I'm happy.

Now a triple would be interesting.

Normally rare because they are separated and sold for extra $$$.
A couple of years ago , I got eggs from Trader Joes and 9 of 12 were double yolks (in the regular carton) then the next box was about the same.
They said it was a new batch of hens & often lay doubles (same as twins for people) in their 1st year.

nothing you just got lucky and got a double yolk egg... i always buy double yolked eggs when i make flans, puddings and some cakes. if anyone related to you or your husband in the family had twins, then you may have a chance for having twins yourself. the eggs was just a nice surprise. ^_^

Yes it is safe to eat. Don't know how common it is though. By the by, for anyone who is interested in this little factoid, there is absolutely no nutritional difference between brown and white eggs. This fallacy is based in superstition.

It is safe to eat, but it is the same as eating twins, becuase the egg was seperating into two chicks, before it was PLUCKED from it's mother and served up devil style!
