The bible states that when you speak in tongues, you are not speaking to men, but to God and Angels (1 Cor 14:2). It could not be demonic as Paul boasted that he spoke in tongues more than anybody. Was Paul filled with a demon?

The belief that tongues are a foriegn language does not stand up to scripture (see 1 Cor 14:2). So, how were the foreigners in Jerusalem able to understand (as mentioned above)? It was a divine act of God that allowed the hearers to hear in their language, not the tongues themselves.

The reference to tongues going away (from those that do not speak in tongues is in 1Cor 13:8), is where the bible states that love never fails but that tongues, knowledge, and prophecies will cease. Notice how 2 of the 3 are still going? Why then, have tongues only gone away?

Critics will also say that tongues were only for the apostles as a means of starting a church in a foreign country. But there is not a scriptural basis for this belief. Most of the people that scoff about tongues do not practice tongues.

So what is the purpose of tongues? Paul answers that: To edify himself (1 Cor 14:4). Jude wrote that you build up your faith by praying in the Spirit (tongues) Jude 20.

IMHO if they're using it to get more people, it's for show probably. Especially those on TV. Several of them have been busted for faking it. But it can happen, all things are possible. You just need to go in with an open mind. They didn't die out though, just so many have abused it, the ones with the true powers and gifts have to keep it hidden or very low key to keep from being accused as a faker... but they're out there.
Remember this - the greatest gift is the ability to touch someone. When they have a bad day, just buy them a drink or a bite to eat, smile, and say it's gonna be ok. Thank a vet for their service (you don't have to agree with why they were there). Smile, you'd be amazed how many people that can affect. Adopt a family for the holidays, or maybe a birthday. Bring a poor single mother a bag of food. It's the little things we do in our daily lives that truly show God's love and power on earth. Use the powers we ALL have and beat the evil one every chance you get. Evil hates kindness most of all.

The gifts of tongues and healing are a very misunderstood part of the Pentecostal Churches. So many people make fun of and ridicule what they don't understand - especially when it comes to differences in religions. My suggestion would be to talk to a minister of a church that believes in this and ask your questions. Attend some services to observe and see how you feel after you have talked to the minister. The fact that you are searching for some answers rather than judging speaks well of you. I hope you find what you are looking for.

None of the gifts of the Holy Spirit have died out, but all are being used in the Church today. Gifts of tongues and healings are very much alive.

My idea of a full gospel church is somewhere that the people are not ashamed of the gospel and adhere and follow all the bible not just parts, also the people witness for their God and Saviour every day of the week not just Sunday. Yes my friend the gifts of tongues and healing ARE REAL not made up.It is still going on today where devoted people seek and pray to God for his touch.

The Bible makes "no" mention of the gifts dying out. He gave us the Holy Spirit as a "helper" after He died, and That would suggest that it's all still real today.
As for it being real or just for display in some churches... who knows but God? There are many false demonstrations these days, (and more to come!), so the only way one can tell if it's real or not is to be as close to God as you can get!

Some of the healings are real beause its happened to me. As far as the tongues go they seem to be quite fake and not the speaking in other known languages as it was in the 1st century.
