stop talking to her?

we have a mexican girl 23 years old that has been working for us for the past year. she speaks no english at all. she works 11 hours a day and is the only mexican there along with my mom and cousin. i try to converse with her to keep her from being bored but conversation is somewhat difficult. i know some spanish because i took 3 years in high school. we had some decent conversations before and i try to talk to her everyday. she only speaks when i talk to her and never talks to me. if i dont speak to her the whole day she will not talk to me. she is not a shy person. when i stand next to her it feels awkard like she is uncomfortable when im close. should i just stop trying to speak to her.

I would say don't stop trying to speak to her if you are interested in her. But that is decision you should make, of course. Don't expect her to talk to you unless you speak to her first. That's how we are. It is a matter of custum. In Mexico girls don't usually start the conversation, the guys do. That means to us girls that they are interested. We like that. Yes, she feels uncomfortable if you get to close to her. If she does not feel free to start talking to your first, she will not feel comfortable if you are within her own physical space. Give her time. We do take it slow unlike american culture.

it is hard to learn a new language!

the first step in learning a new langauge is usually an uncomfortable one, usually you can understand a little but are way too shy to speak it because you are afraid of how your accent sounds.

try to get her some english lessons, tutoring, or offer some sort of assistance to help her in this difficult transition. keep this in consideration and keep doing what you are doing because it can only help her learn more.

Don't give up like that, it will get you no where in life if you keep giving up whenever you find yourself in a difficult or uncomfortable situation.
