OMG!!! Who told you to use rubbing alcohol!!??!??!

DO NOT USE IT!!

Use either A&D or Aquaphore. I've heard of other stuff as well, something like Tattoo H2 or something similiar. And whatever you do, do not go back to that artist!!!

****************

I would go back with several tattoo care sites printed out and demand your money back. And if he doesn't, tell him you will sue and you most definitely have grounds to sue him!!! The color faded because of what he told you to do and because he used cheap ink. I had a tat fade out on me because of cheap ink. I eventualy had it covered up with something completly different.

Ah, so many different answers! So many different ideas!
MOST of these folks are correct!
NO RUBBING ALCOHOL, (drys skin)
NO NEOSPORIN. (removes color)
A&D ointment is good, so is Bacitracin, Tattoo Goo is better as it was specially formulated JUST FOR tattoos. Always wash with lukewarm water, and rub lightly with Dial anti-bacterial soap and your fingertips, Then PAT dry with a clean towel. NO itching or scratching, or scab picking. The scabs are directly connected to the ink and will pull it right out of your skin, leaving a blank spot. later you want to use a WATER based moisturizing lotion, that has no added color or fragrance. Lubriderm is good for most people, though I HAVE seen folks allergic to it.
Just be NICE to it, you paid for it, don't screw it up now!

used alcohol? no no no no no....don't go back to that person.

after a tat is placed, you use triple antibiotic ointment for 2-3 days. You wash it with antibacterial soap in the morning and at night. you pat it dry with paper towels not your bath towel. after that you use any good moisterizer that is free of perfumes etc etc.

understand that the tat also goes through a phase of peeling and that it will appear that it is fading away so with that I would wait a a couple of weeks and see how it looks.

NO more alcohol, dont mess with it, no touching , it needs air, dont glop stuff on it...just a THIN layer of triple anti stuff and then moisterizers...

Good luck.

DO NOT USE ALCOHOL!!!! it will ruin the color, especially on a new tattoo. not to mention....ouch. just lightly wash it with a mild antibacterial soap and water. the first 24 hrs keep it covered with saran wrap, then after that use a petroleum based ointment, bacitracin, aquaphor, and a and d are all good suggestions. after a few days of this, when it stops peeling you can use a good moisturizer (unscented) like lubriderm. good luck.

DEFINITELY DO NOT use alcohol. It will burn like a pain you have never before experienced. Use Neosporin with pain relief or a similar antibiotic ointment and keep it lightly moistened with this at all times. Dont scratch. Its going to itch like you have gotten fleas but if you scratch youre going to lose your ink. Also my tattoo guy advises against petroleum products because he has found they cause trouble with the ink. May just be his particular brand of ink though so Im not sure thats a certain rule. but definitely dont use alcohol or scratch. ( voice of experience on the scratching.. my dog tripped me and cost me a section of color i had to get replaced after it healed. )

When i got my tat i was told to wash as many time with baby shampoo as u could and use the ointment for 2 days...but dont use too much just enough to cover or the ointment will strip out the color . After the two days start putting lotion on it till it heals up.

I have two tattoos that I have gotten in the past 2 years...I was told to wash it with Dial antibacterial soap and put a thin layer of bacitracin for two to three days. After that just wash with Dial and use Curel lotion. Worked great for my tattoos on ankle and foot.

When I got my tattoo I was told to us A and D because things like neosprin can make the color come up to the skin and distort the picture. As for the alcohol, I do not know anything about.

If you went to a tattoo parlor, don't go back. Alcohol will dry your tattoo out, make it scab, scabbing will take out your color!
Use triple antibiotic ointment (thin layer) 2 to 3 times a day.

I have a few tattoos myself, and from talking to my tattoo guy, and researching myself, I have learned to use cool water the remove the bandage, remove it slowly and carefully. Pat dry gently, never scratch it while it is healing!! If it itches, slap it gently. Use a gentle, non scented moisturizer, like orgional lubriderm, or even plain, non medicated blistex. vitamin e cream is good as well, but the best thing to use would be tattoo goo, which you can get at most tattoo shops. also, when showering/bathing, avoid getting your tattoo wet until it heals. you can cover it with a garbage bag, or tape plastic wrap over it while you shower.
