It takes me an extremely long time to fall asleep, and sometimes I stay up for hours and hours and eventually get up and sleep on the floor by my parents.

How can I fix this so I fall asleep quicker, longer, and better? (tips, scinetific info, etc, etc) anything that helps!

Thanks!

I am not the best one to answer this since I have the same problem but I find that if you are really tired it is much better. So what that means is to get at least some exercise during the day and don't get any more than 8 hours sleep even if you are tired all day.

You must cut out the soft drinks with caffeine a few hours before bedtime. I drink only 7-up from 6PM on. I force myself to do this so I won't slip up and drink anything with caffeine.

Tryptophan really works so eat turkey as your last mean of the day.

Also be sure you don't have sleep apnea. If you snore, there is a good chance that you do. Ask your parents to listen to you while asleep... if your breathing pauses while you are asleep, then you probably have sleep apnea. Everyone says that makes you tired but in your case it's your subconscious fear of going to sleep, assuming you have apnea.

Well, At the first level you should see a doctor, but when i had this problem, I tried to wake up in the morning and do lots of work, and do 1.5 hrs exercise in the evening. You'll get very tired if you don't sleep in the middle. Also try to not think about anything while goin to bed.

PS: don't watch too much TV, or work with PC.
anyway good luck

Drink chamomile tea after dinner, and some warm milk before you want to go to sleep. You might want to take a warm bath about 1 hour before you want to sleep, too.

Get some lavender candles or incense (also comes in air freshener, soaps, shampoos, etc.). Lavender helps you to relax, so that you can get to sleep.

If you are old enough (you didn't mention your age), you can try MELATONIN, which is a supplement for sleep--it's in the vitamin aisle of most stores. Read the label carefully--particularly regarding the age at which one can start using this.

*Start weaning yourself off caffeine (which is in regular tea, coffee, chocolate, cola, Mountain Dew, etc.) This could be a big part of your problem.

-Be sure to get enough fresh air and exercise during the daytime, and don't take any naps !

-Don't eat anything heavy after 5-6PM

Good luck to you, you can email me if you have any questions, or if these things don't work--though, do give them a chance. :)

there could be several reasons you can't fall asleep at night. Maybee you have so much on your mind you keep pondering issues and can't fall asleep if this isn't the case then maybee your brain has a seratonin deficiency this is a chemical that your brain produces it is what make a person sleep if this is the case there a medicines available to replace your body with synthetic seratonin.

The artificial light from the computer screen (and even your phone) can reduce melatonin (the sleep hormone) production in your body. Try taking a melatonin suppliment. I take 1mg melatonin on nights that I can't sleep and it works like a charm! The only downfall to taking melatonin is that if you take it every night your body will get used to it and you will have to increase how much you take. I try to only take it occasionally. I also love hot tea containing camomile to help me relax. Sleepy Time Tea with honey is wonderful. :)

One of the greatest deterents to sleeping well at night is you haven't used up much energy during the day...haven't gotten enough oxygen. Try exercising every day outdoors...whether it is jogging, running, walking...just breathe in that oxygen and use up that energy. Also don't eat anything after 6PM...the body's fires of metabolism should not be stoked before you go to bed. They should be resting along with you.

Do you work hard or work out during the day? Working out or doing manual labor will improve your sleep greatly. When you come home you will be more tired if you've work hard in some way. Being thin also helps, overweight people often do not sleep well.

As per mamabear, but keep your bed only for sleeping, it should be very dark after lights out, no daytime naps, and stick to a pre-sleep routine, so your unconscious mind knows it is time to get ready for sleep. Nothing exciting within 2 hrs of bedtime. Practice meditation or relaxation in bed after lights out. See http://www.relax7.com/7.php & http://www.healthyplace.com/communities/ (.com/communities/) Repeat the word: "easy, easy, easy, easy....................... in your mind, as you focus your remaining attention on the feeling your breath makes at the point where it enters and leaves the body, as you breathe regularly, preferably through the nose, in and out, in and out in and out........................ all thoughts noted and dismissed as being mere distractions, as you return to the process............zzZZZZZ

No, they are all wrong besides me. Make it your life quest and priority to get a new bed. Your current bed has misery in shape.
