My daughter and I have gone to the same hairdresser for 5 years, and we absolutely love her. A couple of weeks ago, my 16-year-old had her hair colored for the first time. Our hairdresser told us afterwards that she didn't leave the color on long because she couldn't tell how comfortable my daughter was with the color, so that it might fade out in a week's time. She said if it did, to call her and she'd redo it free. So I paid her and tipped her. Well, it faded out in a few days so our hairdresser worked her back in to the schedule and completely re-did her hair. It looks great. Anyway, should I have tipped her for the second time? She does a great job and I appreciate her being so careful. But I just didn't think about tipping her, and now I'm wondering if I should have. I did offer to pay but she wouldn't take anything.

If she was honest enough to tell you that the color might fade out and she offered to redo your daughters hair for free, then you must have a good relationship with her and she probably didn't expect a tip, but it probably would have been appreciated. If by the time you go back for your next appointment you still feel like you should have tipped her put it in with the tip you give her that day. I'm not a hairstylist, but I've worked in salons and most hairstylist unless the are the only ones in the city can't afford to loose a returning customer over not giving a tip one time. One last cent of my 2 cents, this all depends on how nice of a person your hairstylist is.

I tip my hairdresser 20%. If the hairdresser is an same man or woman who washes your hair (smaller salons), I supply a touch more suitable than 20%. even if it truly is someone diverse I supply no more suitable an 10% of the hair shrink to the hair washer.

I think that its great that you offered to pay her again, and since she wouldnt take anything Im sure that she wouldnt take a tip either. I wouldnt worry about this at all. Your hair dresser must know that you appreciate her since you have stayed with her for so long. I know what its like to love your hair dresser, I have a great one too. Just make sure to tip her well next time. Ive done something like this before and this is nothing to worry about!.. Have a great day=)

I was a nail tech for years and I never expected another tip if my clients came back for a repair within a few days. If your hairdresser offered to redo it she probably wasn't expecting you to tip again. It always depends on the circumstances.

If she wouldnt take anything, what would a tip have done. She is pretty much a friend of yours now. If you want to show her how much you appreciate her, give her a slightly bigger tip the next few times you go.

no, corrections do not require tipping. she put a non permanent dye in your daughters hair. she did not even do her job. im sure she didnt do it because of what you said, so its okay. but no you dont have to tip.

ADD-ON:----i just read what other people said. never tip a correction service. it means they messed up on purpose or by accident. shes wasnt nice. she was afraid your daughter wouldnt like it and purposely put a non permanent hair dye in her hair. if my salonist did that to me, i would actually be upset because these things take time. i have gone in for many corrections. you never have to tip her.

AND please dont tip her, because if you and others do youll be creating a culture where hairstylist screw up peoples hair so they can come back in an tip more. please dont do it. she did nothing for a tip.

of course lots of people who love tips will say to tip her, but it is not even good for the society to do this. please dont support a culture of overtipping. already i noticed hairstylist get angry is you dont tip over 20%. it is getting almost insane with tipping.

take care.

No...the hair dresser wouldn't except the the money for it, so she most likely wouldn't have accepted your tip Your very lucky to find someone who is so trust worthy and honest. Next time you can bring her something like baked cookies or mabye alittle present to show graitude...but don't go over the top. Something like some nail polish, a pair of earrings, or even a little plant would be fine.

Yes tip her - if you don't want to run by the salon, then mail her a thank you card saying that her work is outstanding and put in a tip- I would say tip her the usual amount. You are lucky, I can't seem to find anyone that stays in their same salon for more than 6 months.

Tipping is for good service. If she did good work on both occasions then I would have tipped her the second time (although maybe not as much). Never hurts to be generous.

You have a lot more yes here than I would have thought. If it was a re-do for something you already paid and tipped for, I would not tip again.
