God is revered as holy because that is how he has revealed himself. He is anything but the average Joe and when people start thinking like that, bad things happen!

I do agree that many depictions now-a-days seem to relegate him to the role of a person that would be perfectly at home as a manager of McDonald's or something. I think this is because people want to feel closer to him, which to a point is healthy. But I also think that a sense of awe is in order. He is the creator of the universe. He would make Einstein and Newton look like bumbling idiots. We ought to contemplate that side a little bit more than we do. We are in His image and I think it would inspire us to lift ourselves above so much of the mundane and hum-drum (especially directed from Hollywood and our 24-hr entertainment culture) that is constantly bombarding us.

...true... God is Holy (separate)... but He wants "us" to be His friend (Chapter and vs. if you'd like...as he called David).
...and no, if you are "in Christ", you're NOT the average joe... The Royal Blood of heaven is in you.... The average joe, sadly, doesn't have a clue... so please, get out there and tell "joe" about the Glory of the Lord that is awaiting him...

I tend to agree with you. Many churches are so bound up by their man made traditions that they have forgotten what worship really means. In Revelation I believe they are the church that is luke warm. Worship is not about saying this or that or kneeling or standing or singing or even praying what is written in a bulletin etc. Worship is all about God and Jesus.

Yes, but I can't do that. I think of God more like a much larger sun. He is raw power. There is enough power for us all, but some choose to stay inside and be hidden because they are afraid He will change their lives. And He would too. He is a big scary God. To make things worse the Bible says the beginning of wisdom is to FEAR God. We don't like those parts anymore than you do.

God is holy. He deserves our reverence and respect. But we are to go boldly to the throne of grace. He is my Father. So I give Him reverence during worship, but I also talk to Him like my Father.
