I wonder if he got a hotter wife?

Supposedly God allowed Satan to kill Job's family. It was certainly proper for God to replace them, but of course, He replaced them with other people, and that is not the same, is it?

If someone killed your wife and kids and replaced them with a new set, would that seem the same to you?

The whole story is either extremely cruel or just plain ghoulish, in the way the Brothers Grimm tales are ghoulish, with cannibalistic witches and such. Whether it is cruel or ghoulish depends on whether it actually happened.

I tend to believe that it never happened.

Somewhere between the Old Testament times and modern times, the Jews evolved from a bunch of humorless and dogmatic sourpusses into the most humorous people around.

The one thing that is entirely missing from the entire Bible OT and NT alike, is a total lack of humor.

At least one Biblical personage deserved a good goosing, but none of them ever got it.

There was --& still is-- a very important issue that Job's integrity illustrated. His loyalty also provided us with tangible proof that those of us that remain loyal to God --out of love-- under adversities, will be treated with a great deal of love & respect.

All the dead will be resurrected under God's heavenly government, and this time around, no one will have to die. Death will come only to those who willfully choose to rebel against God's loving laws & principles.

God was not the one to cause Job so much harm! Yet,
God had very good reason to permit Satan to test Job.
His loyalty proved Satan's accusation that, 'No man will ever serve God out of love -- despite severe & long-lasting hardships!' -- the LIE that it was!

I truly appreciate what Job went through out of loyalty to God. It provides mankind one more reason to trust & exersize faith in God's promise to put all creation back the way he originally created them.

The reason God permits suffering, explained in more detail:

Well, it was God did bet Satan on Job's loyalty to God and since God had won the bet God doubled Job's territory.
It wasn't really "nice" so-to-speak, but God blessed him indeed after the mis-hap of Satan's plan.

Yes, I guess. Don't think I'd feel quite the same. Job is supposed to be the oldest book in the Bible so why it's stuck in the middle I don't know. Many of us Christians don't believe the old stories are literal and don't even let the details bother us. There is a point to Job's story, but I would miss it if God let the devil put me through all that!! Forget that!!

Job knew where his family went .
It's about faith and trust in God, and what you love more.

Not only did God give Job another family, he gave him infinite wealth and everything else he lost.

We're at WAR you silly - it's Satan you should be railing at!!

actually, according to the Jewish Encyclopedia, Satan cannot cause evil, only the Devil can (Satan=OT, Devil=NT), so yes it was nice of God to do that.

Job thought so. He is together with all of them now in the Kingdom of heaven. He wanted you to know.

Yep, it was so nice of him to make Satan do the dirty work, and then replace the family and give him blessings.
Reminds me of the life of Brian.. "bloody do-gooder" ;)
