Doing my taxes this year, I realized I didnt file taxes in the year 2002. I owed about $300 and Im kinda worried about it. I make under $25,000 and usually get a refund. What should I do? Should I just file it and send payment and hope they forget about it? I dont want to pay alot of interest and stuff. Should I let it go and hope they never notice? Help, I dont want the IRS at my door.

File and pay. They will send you a bill for interest and penalties. Now ask yourself - have you allowed this to happen before? Was it a genuine oversight in a period of stress or similar? If so, when they send you the bill for penalties and interest, write to them and ask if they can be abated. you may be pleasantly surprised at the result.

It is not an option to do nothing. They will catch up with you. If you owe $300 there is going to be paperwork at the IRS with your name on it - a W-2, a selection of 1099's, stuff like that. Now is about the time they will get around to doing something about it. Beat them to it, for your own good.

Yes, you should file your 2002 return, and no, they won't just forget about it. You'll owe the $300, plus penalties and interest.

file it pay it and thank them for not coming after you. they are cool if you pay but not if they have to come after you. they dont forget believe me even for a paltry sum.
