I'm moving and taking a new job, but the new job will mean commuting about 900 miles per week year round (and not being compensated for mileage etc).

So I need a great, smooth riding car that I can rack up the miles on and have it stay reliable (and hold its value). Would prefer one that could also handle the snow decently. Any ideas?

How about a Range Rover or an Audi? Other cars?

an unused car would last longest, but based on your preferences
and apparently a decent pocket book, I'd probably be looking
at a beamer, mercedes, or volvo.

Look at some of these records by people who were mapmakers:

1991 Acura Legend - 1,000,000 miles and counting.
1986 Saab 900 Turbo - 1,000,000 miles and counting.
1972 Volvo PV544 - 2,000,000 miles and counting.

These are rarities, though, and were extremely maintained.

To tell the truth, I'd go for a diesel-powered vehicle, since diesels are extremely reliable, are the easy to maintain, and get far better gas mileage than their gasoline counterparts. I know that Mercedes-Benz, and Volkswagen all offer diesel-powered midsize cars in the United States. Look for the Mercedes-Benz E320 CDI and Volkswagen Passat TDI. If you're willing to look for a slightly older car, Audi and BMW also offered diesels in the 1990s.

The standouts in the diesel crowd are the compact Volkswagen's, which get better gas mileage than even the new hybrids. The Volkswagen Beetle TDI, Golf TDI, and Jetta TDI are all rated at 42-48 miles per gallon.

If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.

, Car buying involves many personal choices but for long life and reliability, I highly recommend the HONDA brand.

Do you homework, go on line and get real stats.

Ask someone who drives a very old Honda, after 15 years that are "sick of the damn thing" but it goes and goes.

Make sure you do all the proper maintenance and you will be rewarded.

I would recommend an all-wheel-drive Mercedes or BMW. If high scheduled maintenance costs are of serious concern, I would suggest the Acura RL, or the less expensive Infinity G35 all-wheel-drive sedan.

A BMW or a Mercedes E-320 ( the color of the E-320 has to be mocha).

What ever the car make is, it better be a DIESEL at least. As for diesels, Mercedes, GM, Dodge and Ford are the best.
