when do they have babies

Depends a bit on latitude, earlier in the south later in the north, end of March to mid April depending on location is the norm for the first brood (batch of babies, usually 2-3) and they will hatch 11-14 days later. However that's not where it ends, often the first nesting attempt fails or if there is enough time left in the season they may have a second brood, this means that cardinals can be found nesting until August even September on some occasions.

I agree, generally, with birdgirl's answer above; however, I have noticed here in Florida that there are fledgling youngsters as early as late February and as late as November. That seems to indicate they may breed through most of the year this far south. This is unlikely to happen further north, where food supplies and weather are best in mid to late spring.

They began breeding in late March/early April. They incubate for 11-13 days, so babies would not be hatched until around at least mid-late April.
