sometimes if someone is explaining something to you, and you either want to impress, or really cant be bothered, how often do you make out you know what they mean? Seldom, sometimes, or often. Until you get the gist of it.

I have had a teacher say that they pretend to understand things when they don't and admit that more people do it than not, just to uphold their reputations, I suppose. We're all a bunch of fakes:-)

omg yes. heaps of times i dont hear people properly or they mumble at the end. i just pretend i hear. sometimes they look at you funny..methinks they knows... or if they have asked you question that gets awkward.

All the time..I am a supervisor at my work which consist of 5 or 6 people I have to look out for and sometimes they come and tell me the weirdest stuff i just listen and shake my head and add the oh mys, ahhhaa,your kidding.They leave and i wonder what the heck they were talking about and its not that I don't listen to them I do..they come with some off the wall stuff.So I guess my answer if often

Well I work with three Indians, one of which sits next to me. I can barely understand what he is saying most of the time and on the odd occasion I have said 'sorry?'. However, I mostly just nod and hope that he stops talking to me because I can't be bothered and being white, I could be seen as racist in Australia if I constantly was saying 'sorry, I didn't catch that?' The immigrants have us Aussies by the balls unfortunately.
