He was raised and confirmed as a roman catholic. But stopped going to church but was a religious man in public speeches. A book came out that was written by one of his friends. And it was called table talk and in it he criticized god and religion. Which lead some people to believe that he was an agnostic or atheist. This was great for Christians; because they were disgusted with the thought of him being a Christian. But the book was written by a woman that was known for hating religion. So it could have just been her trying to put words in his mouth to make money and to inspire his followers to reject religion. All I know was he was a disgusting excuse for a human being. And showed the pig headedness of the conservatives. Check out his article on wikipedia it’s pretty interesting.

I would take most of these answers with a grain of salt. Hitler was a master propagandist and manipulator. Everyone on here needs to read something credible on his life to understand how F-ed up he was. He was raised in a Christian household, but his goal was to bring back a twisted form of the ancient Teutonic religions that worshiped the old Norse gods.
He sent Jews, Christians, Catholics, gays, Gypsies to the gas chambers.

No true Christian (or Jew - his Jewish ancestry is a myth and no Jewish person would claim him anyway) or any person with any morality or conscience would do what he did. He had no soul.

Aye. Germany was a flourishing Catholic nation at the time but whether or not Hitler really was a christian is a mystery to me. It is said he kept a private journal where he wrote things like 'Christianity should be allowed to die a natural death, he was skeptical.. etc etc' but whether that was just western propaganda to ease the wounds of a heavily christianized Europe and America who fought against him I'm not sure as that seems rather likely. A popular symbol of the reich was the Iron cross, and Hitler, at the time of WWII was publicly recognized as a christian or for the ignorant ones who say 'Catholic aren't christians' more specificly he was Roman Catholic. The Nazi party used christian beliefs and bible teachings to support their actions towards jews and unite the huge reich with a common belief, which at it's peak spawned from Africa to Denmark. He tried to restore the legacy of the Christian Roman Empire That existed from the 1st to 5th century. Christian, Atheist, Islamic, Jew ...it is quite irrelevant because above all he had horrible idealogic standpoints that didn't involve religion (although he used religion to force them on the public). Above he all he was a Nazi.

HItler was a Catholic.

There is some controversy over whether he was a true believer or whether he just used religious language to persuade people, (similar to the question about how sincere George Bush's Christianity is)

He was definitely NOT an atheist, in spite of being labeled that way by some Christians, in a weak attempt to "prove" the immorality of atheism.

Christians like to claim he was an atheist. Atheists like to say he was a christian. By doing so, they are hoping to make the other look bad. What matters, is Hitler was a lunatic. And, in all acuality, didn't really follow any religion, except what he wanted to do. So, his religious preference doesn't really matter.

Hitler repeatedly called himself a Christian and used Christian beliefs to justify his actions.

Catholic. Here's a speech excerpt.

"My feelings as a Christian points me to my Lord and Savior as a fighter. It points me to the man who once in loneliness, surrounded by a few followers, recognized these Jews for what they were and summoned men to fight against them and who, God’s truth! was greatest not as a sufferer but as a fighter. In boundless love as a Christian and as a man I read through the passage which tells us how the Lord at last rose in His might and seized the scourge to drive out of the Temple the brood of vipers and adders. How terrific was His fight for the world against the Jewish poison. To-day, after two thousand years, with deepest emotion I recognize more profoundly than ever before the fact that it was for this that He had to shed His blood upon the Cross. As a Christian I have no duty to allow my self to be cheated, but I have the duty to be a fighter for truth and justice… And if there is anything which could demonstrate that we are acting rightly it is the distress that daily grows . For as a Christian I have also a duty to my own people." –Adolf Hitler, in a speech on 12 April 1922 (Norman H. Baynes, ed. The Speeches of Adolf Hitler, April 1922-August 1939, Vol. 1 of 2, pp. 19-20, Oxford University Press, 1942)

Hitler belonged to the fascist part of Germany whose four pillars were anti-semitism, anti-liberalism, anti-communism and anti-Christianism. I read this from Coliiers encyclopedia copyright 1962. Thumb me down if ya like but I suggest you contact the encyclopedia writers and correct them based on your web site sources. I'm sure they could use a good laugh. Hitler was a Christian? Yeah and I'm the Pope.

Yes it was a form of Christianity, his own. But whether Christians will admit it or not, all Christianity is self designed.
