I've been having an argument with my sloth brained brother over here about Adam and Eve. Eve was fooled by the serpent and ate of the forbidden fruit. Later on she gave Adam to eat of it as well. Which means that Adam was not fooled by the serpent--keep in mind he was very intelligent--and must have chosen to follow Eve instead of God. My argument is that Eve committed the greater sin by sinning through pride and vanity, while Adam sinned by loving his wife more than he did God. My bro disagrees fervently, saying that Adam was not fooled and made a decision against God. What do you think?

Excellent question.

God gave Adam the instructions and he was supposed to instruct Eve. Thus, Eve disobeyed her mate, while Adam disobeyed God.

Adam has two problems here. He failed in his duty to God by not adequately following God's decree in propertly instructing Eve in the first place, and in not following the decree himself.

Adam failed God twice. Eve failed Adam once. Adam's sin was the greater.

Actually, according to Latter-day Saint scholars, neither sinned. They transgressed. Nowhere in the Bible does it mention Adam and Eve in the same verse with "sin." It does use the word "transgression." What is transgression? It is breaking a law. Sin is something that is morally wrong and for which you can repent.
Adam and Eve wilfully chose to eat of the fruit, even though Eve was deceived. They decided that it was better for them to pass through sorrow, that they could know good from evil. In this way, they could be agents of choice and choose God. Had they remained in the Garden, there would have been no growth. God knew that they would choose to eat of the tree of knowledge, or he wouldn't have put them there. Why would God, who is all-knowing and could easily see what would happen, give them that choice? It was so they could learn to follow God of their own free choice, and they couldn't do so without having options between good and evil.
This is one of the most misunderstood concepts in all of human history, and one that evolved, by the way, since the Nicene council. Early Christianity and Judaism paint a much different picture of Adam and Eve. That concept just became lost over the years.
You, in a way, are correct. Adam DID choose to eat the fruit, but not because he loved Eve more than God, but because there was a commandment given them even before (meaning it was greater) than the commandment that they not eat the fruit. What was it? That they should multiply and replenish the Earth. If Eve was cast out and Adam left behind, how would they fulfill that commandment? Thus he ate to keep God's commandments.

It is my belief and understanding that God does not necessarily put a degree on sin---to make an analogy, our court system-murder in the 1st degree, 2nd, etc... In His Eye's, sin is sin. Now He does state in the Old Testament that certain sins deserve death such as: if a man lay down with another man like a woman, vice-versa, animals,etc...Adam & Eve were both told by God---Who walked with them in the Garden---not to eat of the fruit. They had dominion over everything else but that. Even though Eve was decieved first (because woman are weaker and more neurotic in my opinion) does not mean that Adam wasn't equally as weak by allowing Eve to manipulate him, because he knew better. As far as I know, Eve was "hypmotized and/or memorized" by the serpent and don't feel that it was totally her fault.

It's really a mute point either way because sin is sin is sin, but if I HAD to say one sinned more I would say Eve sinned more because not only did she give into the temptation to eat the fruit and disobey God's law, but then she encouraged another (Adam) to sin and do the same so she had TWO huge sins on her head where as Adam just chose to follow her sheepishly instead of obeying God.

Adams sin was greater because God himself gave him the earth to rule and made him the caretaker...Eve did bite the apple but Adam was right there the whole time and he had the power to stop it by simply saying leave.. When he took a bite from the apple he gavbe dominion of the earth to satan because God gave it to him God could not take it back..satan has dominion over the earth and to proof this satan was able to offer to give it to Jesus when he was trying to tempt him offering it to Gods own son...So Adam was the real sinner... Also when God came down and asked did you eat from the tree of knowledge eve answered the serpent gave it to me...Adam asnwered Eve gave it to me what a coward he was....

I think the question is moot since neither one of you know what the real story was with Adam and eve. But just for the record i think Adam was the more offensive. Believe me i am not talking down to you or trying to be snide. But you asked a question and this was the only truthful way i could answer it . God bless.

Neither. Rather you have committed the greatest sin by not using your intelligence to study how the Bible was put together and to realize that this story is a Myth.

The reason you can't find an answer to your question; no one sin greater than the other.

Adam was not fooled. He made that choice, for whatever reason. and we have been suffering because of it, ever since!
