I was exposed to a friend with shingles about one day before the blisters developed and I am worried that I may catch chicken pox because though I am vaccinated i never had it before. This exposure happened 5 days back and I am absolutely fine now. will i catch chicken pox ? will i see any symptoms after about 5-10 days ? I have also been taking care of the patient however after having known that he is infected with shingles, I have been very cautious.

How is shingles spread?
A person must have already had chickenpox in the past to develop shingles. Contact with an infected individual does not cause another person's dormant virus to reactivate.

However, the virus from a shingles patient may cause chickenpox in someone who has not had it before.

Shingles is a virus that lives in the body after a person has had chicken pox. Certain things like stress and illness make the shingles erupt. It can be a one time thing or happen multiple times during ones life. But shingles comes from the chicken pox virus. Shingles can leave pain after the blisters have cleared. I think it is possible, though, to have shingles if there were erupting blisters and there was contact made.
Shingles usually appear only on one side of the body. Chicken pox are everywhere, even in hair.

You want pointless look at Rubella. It causes even fewer problems than chicken pox with the exception of if it is contracted during pregnancy, before they started vaccinating kids 85% of women of childbearing years were immune. Now almost 100% of women in childbearing years require repeated vaccination (at least every 10 years) and the vaccine is more risky for women (the older they are the more likely they are to have side effects). And of course with many pregnancies being unplanned and many women not being up to date on their vaccines probably more than 15% of pregnant women would be at risk during an outbreak. Also keep in mind with the chicken pox vaccine that you don't just risk the side effects once -you risk them over, and over, and over again but in most cases you only have the risks of chicken pox once. You can always let the chicken pox vaccine lapse and try to make sure your child get the chicken pox before they are older when chicken pox has more side effects. Of course if your child doesn't get the chicken pox by the time they hit puberty, particularly girls should consider the vaccine (because there are risks to the baby from contracting it during pregnancy) The elderly may also consider the vaccine to prevent shingles whether they have had chicken pox as a child or not.

To my knowledge shingles comes from a person having chicken pox. The virus stays within a persons body and at some time in a person's life it shows in the way of shingles. I do not think since you have had the vaccination for chicken pox and have never had the pox .. you will not get the pox or get the shingles.

I had Shingles for the first time a few weeks ago. I am normally in good health and haven't had any other health challenges before, so it came as a surprise.

Shingles is probably the most painful thing I have ever encountered. I went to the doctor, and he gave me some prescription drugs to take that was suposed to help, but didn't.

My wife found the Fast Shingles Cure ebook online and bought it for me, I am very lucky to have such a wonderful woman in my life. We followed the book, did what it said, and it delivered what it promised. Finally my Shingles rash is over... I feel truly blessed and thankful.
