U.S. restrictions aren't really impeding stem cell research. The work is progressing in Europe. Rough on U.S. scientists in the field, but overall not disastrous.
I think that question you've cited is a troll. Look at the name.

The Nazi's conducted much research resulting in peoples death as well. I would hardly call that progress but rather regress. But I am not sure this is necessarily an atheist isue. As for science in general I don't think anyone owns asking questions.

There is a lot of things out there that hide under the guise of progress

Do not automatically assume athiests are pro-science. It simply means "no god". There are plenty of thickos out there as well.
As for stem cell research being progress, I think the jury is still out on that one.

Whoever asked that question is a moron. Obviously, atheists are not against science. If they were, they probably wouldn't be atheists. Everyone out there who has a problem with science is a theist. (Obviously, there can be exceptions, but this is the general rule).

I think he was a little ticked off because not 20 seconds earlier somebody asked if christianity and religion in general is hindering progress.

I'm not against progress as long as it's not done by causing some degree of suffering or harm. That's my ultimate, personal "take" on it... as a Buddhist, but I don't foist any of my ethics or views on others.

Well, according the the Journal Nature, 93% of the National Academy of Sciences don't believe in God.
So apparently, yes, they're anti-science.

This is typical Christian ignorance.
The woman in charge of the research referred to, Elaine Howard Ecklund is a member of the Bethel Grove Bible Church, and participates in college level debates from a Christian perspective. She is completely biased and her phrasing of her findings reflect this.
Her report does not state that 66% of scientists believe in God. It states that +- 32% are Atheists, and 30% + are Agnostics. She, and most Christian sites neglect to mention this second, vital stat.
Scientists that believe in God are in the minority.
