there is no one best martial art in the world. it all depends on your personal preferences, i'm a big guy but i'm not too muscular, i'm extremely tall with really really long limbs which means something in close like thai boxing is both good and bad for me. i'm horrid with my feet so taekwondo is completely impractical for me because it's mostly footwork and kicking. i personally use a little bit of basic yudo (korean judo) for my sweeps, some basic aikido for force misdirection, and the hand work of basick kungfu, taekwondo and ueichi ryu (an okinawan martial art similar to karate).

someone like my friend however, very short and stocky, would be more suited to a heavy rooted kungfu style with lots of joint lock and close range grappling. it all depends on your body type

my best advice is try a few out and get familiar with your body. once you learn how your body moves you'll know what styles are best for you.

The best type of martial art is the type that trains with aliveness.

Any martial art that trains with aliveness, be it wrestling, judo, Muay Thai or savate will do well and be competitive in a real fight or a ring situation because those fighters will know how to use their techniques and skills in a stressed environment.

Sparring is good. The more intense the sparring the better.

The worest martial arts are those which rely on moves taught in a vacuum and which de-emphasize sparring and rely on their "deadly" techniques. Techniques which are never practiced.

Those martial arts will get you whomped on in a fight.

Chill out guys. I think he means: If 5 people trained in 5 different martial arts and mastered it ( by the way the 5 people have the same body type and were brought up the same way) who would win in a fight?

Hi there

This is like searching for the holy grail or the golden fleece!
Simply put there isn't one. Its down to the individual and how the art is applied. People will tell you its this and that and that mixed fighting is best etc etc etc. In the end its lots of things rolled into one the style of fighting is only a very small part.

there is no form of martial arts that is the 'best.' every different type has it's pros and cons. for one person, it depends what their strengths and weaknesses are to decide which is the best one for them. but, no form of martial arts wins the fight, it's the fighter who has trained the most, has the most skills, and advantages that wins.
