I'd like to have my bedroom painted a dark purple. The problem is that my husband seriously hates painting, and I'm seriously horrible at painting (but would willingly do it). I have a friend who LOVES to paint, and I'm thinking of asking her if she'd do it. I just have no clue how much to pay her for the job. It's a medium sized bedroom that's currently off-white. The ceilings aren't high or anything- we're talking super average bedroom. How much would you pay?

im a painter and i will charge 230-250 dollars for a typical bedroom or living room. this includes supplies and labor, two coats, inspecting every square inch of wall surface for repair (patching, sanding, etc etc) and once completed, inspecting all woodwork for paint and remove as necessary. hope this helps. keep in mind i am a professional and my prices may be higher than a friend of yours :) it will normally take me 4 hours maximum to complete (about 50 dollars/hr before supplies). also, if your room is a very bright color (white, light beige, etc) i would suggest one coat of gray primer and two coats of purple (depending on how dark the color you want is and how light your current walls are). i would typically charge another 50 for the primer coat, to cover more time and paint.

If she's more of an acquaintance than a close friend, sure, pay her something like the suggested $50. If she's a good friend, or perhaps a neighbor, however - who did not asked to be paid - I'd suggest a gift certificate, or a bottle of wine and a box of good chocolate, etc., and most certainly a nice thank-you card a week later. If I was that person, I'd then feel more like a friend and less like you were keeping me at a distance, as an "employee". When the paint is on, if she takes down the tape, pulls the covers, cleans the brushes, and genrally gets things nice, she's a "keeper". Then don't forget a big hug, and look for an opportunity to be there for her someday.

If you are supplying the paint...somewhere between $100 - $200....depends on how much prep work is involved.... if its a dark purple....highly recommend a stain primer first... you could do that coat..its just primer....the painter would still need at least two coats...so maybe closer to $200.....if not a little more..... good luck...sounds gorgeous...my friend has a dark purple powder room..she painted the ceiling also...its incredible.................

A good guess for me would be $500 and that includes 2 finish coats of paint , no ceilings, woodwork and you buy all materials at my cost, that's what I would get in the northeast. Les the painter
