I want to find out whether the "Languages of Education", or the languages that show that one is educated, in Africa are English, French and Portuguese.

Yes, it's true that many schools (good and bad) in Africa use the languages of their former colonizers as the medium of instruction. Since so many different tribal languages are spoken in Africa, it is often the easiest way of finding a common language.

Im not sure how the schools are in Africa. In South Africa the most common would be English. The rural schools teach in their own language which is an African language and very little English. The schools in the city are either English and teach Afrikaans as a secondary compulsory language and the Afrikaans schools teach English as a secondary compulsory language. You have the option of learning a third language which could be French, German or an African language but its not compulsory. Yet we do have a large Portuguese community but it hardly gets taught in schcools. I have yet to meet someone that speaks French as a result of learning it in school.
