I realize that I cannot practice law per se where I am not licensed, but I can do legal things. I may not represent someone in another state, but surely I can assist another lawyer in another state in various capacities. I was wondering if I could do legal assistant type work in Canada with the TN immigration status without taking the Alberta Bar.

From what I've read of Canada's general practice of law requirements, yes you could work as a paralegal or legal assistant to a Canadian attorney, pending your new license.
