I am the religious education coordinator of a Catholic parish.

1. One is baptised a CHRISTIAN, not a Catholic. Catholicism is an expression of Christianity- the most perfect expression.

2. Only one parent need be Catholic. Don't think you are the only person ever to marry outside the faith. It happens all the time.

3. Only one godparent need be Catholic- a PRACTICING Catholic. The other- which must be of the opposite gender- if not Catholic, would be called a Christian witness.

No, your husband does not need to be Catholic in order to have your baby baptized as a Catholic.

Were you and your husband married in the Catholic Church? If not, you should probably have your marriage blessed by a Catholic priest first, before proceeding with your baby's baptism.

As long as your sister is a practicing Catholic, she can definitely be your baby's godmother.

In many dioceses, it's permitted to only have one godparent -- although, traditionally, there is a godmother and a godfather.

If there's a practicing Catholic man you know who can be the godfather, that would be preferable. He doesn't have to be a relative; he simply has to be a Catholic man who's willing to take on the responsibility of being the baby's godfather.

If you are Catholic and want your children to be baptized Catholic and plan to raise your children to be Catholic and have Catholic god-parents, then there is no reason for you to worry about your husband being a non-Catholic. That is, the Church would not place any impediment upon you.

Your husband does not have to become Catholic.

In fact, if you were married in the Catholic Church, then your husband signed a statement saying he would raise his children Catholic out of respect for your faith.

There shouldn't be any problem. Talk to your parish priest for more details.

You child may be baptized Catholic if your husband is not a Catholic. The important question is, "Are you a practicing Catholic?" "Do you attend Mass regularly?"
In order for anyone to be a God Parent, they must be a practicing Catholic who has been Confirmed.
The Baptism should be done by your Priest or Deacon. You may only Baptize in case of emergency, after which you need to have contact with your priest who will advise you what to do next.

I don't quite understand your question, but from what I do I'll tell you, anyone is accepted into the Catholic church, your husband doesn't have to be baptized (at least not that I know of) in order for you to baptize your baby. I do believe though, godparents should be baptied because they are supposed to be mentors to the person being baptized. Hope this helps!

Yes, you can baptize your baby Catholic without the father being Catholic. I know plenty of people who have been in that position. Yes, your sis can be your son's Godmother.

No, you do not have to be Catholic at all. It shouldn't be a problem. My sister's baby was baptised in a Catholic church and her boyfriend (yes, she wasn't married, and the priest didn't bat an eyelid) wasn't Catholic.

Your husband does not have to convert. But along with you and the Catholic godparents, he will have to promise to raise the child as a Catholic.

With love in Christ.

As long as one parent is catholic and the godparents are catholic, then it should be ok for your baby to baptised a catholic.

Only a Catholic priest is allowed to baptise infants.
Go to your parish and ask about your other questions.
Peace and every blessing!
