When a home TV first became popular, it was just in black and white. There was no remote control. In order to change the channel, you had to get up, go over to the TV and turn the round dial to the number of the channel you wanted. There was no cable television either. Metal things called "rabbit ears" were used to get the TV to work. Sometimes these rabbit ears had to be turned to get a good picture and we often had to change the position of the rabbit ears when we changed the channel. Later, big antennas were put on the roof of a house to use with the TV set.

Usually only one television in the house (living room). Three channels (maybe a PBS station or two). Black and white. Had to get up out of your chair and go to your television if you wanted to change the channels or turn up/down the volume. Programs usually ended by midnight and all you got after that was a fuzzy screen. Way back in the old days...

TV didn't make it into many households until the 5o's. They often watched it at a friend or relative's house in the early days, on small sets with rabbit ears, in black and white.

when the television was invented, it was just the same except it had like three channels, it ended at 12:00 midnight, and it was in black and white.
