It depends on which engine and year of Jetta you're talking about.
The older Jettas were less reliable than the newer ones, but the new ones aren't all that great either. Among similarly-sized cars, nearly every Japanese model is rated higher in reliability, as well as the Chevrolet Cavalier, Ford Escort and newer (2003+) Focus, and Pontiac Sunfire. About the only worse models were the Dodge Neon, Plymouth Neon, and Volkswagen's own Beetle.
On the other hand, the diesel-powered Jettas, called the Jetta TDI, have been quite reliable, plus get better gas mileage than nearly ever hybird car (except Toyota Prius and Honda Insight) and have the most torque in their class.
As for parts, expect them to be higher than American cars, but lower than the Japanese cars and other European cars since the parts have to be imported (expensive shipping, plus German taxes) and are therefore subject to the import tax.
Basically, I'd avoid the Volkswagen Jetta unless it's either a screamin' deal on one in excellent shape mechanically or a well-maintained Jetta TDI.
If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.

maximum VW's have scored a lot worse than everyday in client comments reliability rankings. also, maximum ecu autos fee more suitable to fix than frequent. That mixture can suck your wallet (or handbag) dry very instantly. in case you want a reliable used vehicle, the 2003 and up Ford concentration, the Toyota Corolla and the Mazda Protege are reliable bets for that type of funds.

I can't answer about the 07's, but for what it's worth, I have an 01 and since I bought it CPO from the dealership in 2004, I've had it in for numerous issues over 12 times. It seems to me the parts are pretty expensive, HOWEVER, I have a special edition.

I haven't had one personally...but I've had a few friends that do. They LOVE it!! Never had any mechanical problems or anything like that. Not sure about the parts....but they haven't had any problems with theirs.....just the normal wear and tear that comes from years of driving any vehicle!
