Atheist keep posting that Christians are against science, despite the fact that 66% of the scientists today believe in God, and 76% of the doctors believe likewise. Are atheists trying to brainwash Christians? Do Atheists want Christians not to major in science. If that is the case, then atheists are hurting the progress of mankind.

Why don't you guys just let the believing majority of scientists out there just do their jobs, just like the hundreds in the past?

I don't believe so.

It's just that religion in general, especially those relying on old texts for guidance, are more conservative in nature. Since the texts used to declare the tenets of belief are old, the beliefs within them are old, meaning that the older the religion, the older the science around when the religion was created. Since religion is created around old scientific beliefs, it means that religion is adverse to newer scientific theories that could possibly disprove the basis of the religion in question. For example, look at the story of Adam and Eve. It was believed to be literally true before Darwin came around with his theory of evolution, which completely set the Old Testament onto its side. Because the religious doctrine was questioned by new science, theologians during the time period had to try to prove that Adam and Eve was still applicable even if science didn't agree. This led to the creation of two beliefs: either that evolution is just impossible, no matter what evidence might arise, or that Adam and Eve is a symbolic story. The problem with the first is that people are ignoring evidence, and the second is problematic because there is no limit to when the symbolic aspects of the Bible might stop. Who is to say that all of the work in the Bible isn't symbolic? After that, who knows if God is just a metaphor for nature?

It's not that atheists want Christians to drop all involvement with science. It's just that religion oftentime comes to a standstill with new science, which leads to rather rocky situations. It's a lot easier to have someone completely open to new scientific evidence than someone who is torn between the new evidence and their own more conservative beliefs involving religion.

Firstly, if you have ever been to university, you will know never ever reference, or totally believe what you read on wikipedia. You have no idea who is writing what you start repeating as truth.

Most scientists will be atheistic or agnostic. The arguement against God is a very logical and structured one, and scientists (who get into their profession due to a natural tendency to think in that manner) are more predisposed to think like that.

As for livescience.com...is that a religious based site? 'half-science, half-religion' if you will? I don't trust that as a source either.

Religion is the half of the arguement that accepts without needing proof, unquestionably. Science is the force of progress and change, so it is more likely to be the other way round. Religion - at least deep-ingrained stubborn religion - slows progress.

1 study that claims that by asking 1000 scientists hmmm really interesting how come u couldn't find any related studies on wikipedia all your links aren't directed toward a study just at some words which it didn't find and to a list of Cristian scientists don't worry about study like that i can ask 900 atheists and come to the conclusion that 90% of the world is atheist by your same logic.
we are not against Christian scientists by all means pls become scientists and maybe you will come to realize what we have realized for so long that there is no god or prof of his existence

Hahaha.

Elaine Howard Ecklund is a member of the Bethel Grove Bible Church, and participates in college level debates from a Christian perspective. She is completely biased and words her findings to reflect this.

Her report does not state that 66% of scientists believe in God. It states that +- 32% are Atheists, and 30% + are Agnostics. She, and most Christian sites neglect to disclose this second, vital stat.

Scientists that believe in God are in the minority.

It's like saying 66% of scientists collect coins. If they stopped collecting coins, would that effect their ability as a scientist? Of course not. In fact, it might help - they'd have more time to spend on their work. We're not saying christians shouldn't be scientists - but maybe scientists shouldn't waste their time and kill their brain cells on christianity.

God has never helped someone discover something.

On the contrary: atheists are solidly in favor of progress and the increase of scientific knowledge -- that is why they are atheists: you cannot do science if you posit supernatural causes for real world events. Science proceeds on the essential assumption that there is no such thing as a supernatural cause. It is not surprising that the higher one's IQ, or the more that one is into science, the more likely one is to be an atheist.

Many scientist believe in God, but most of them do NOT believe in intelligent design. Most of them do NOT believe that God created the world in 6 days.

Atheists are against the dogmatic preachers who believe in a completely literal interpretation of a creation myth. Atheists are against religion when it teaches nonsence.

I'm an engineer and a Pagan. By definition, I believe in "god", but not the same one as the Christians. Belief in God doesn't imply belief in the Bible literally.

If you ask how many scientists, doctors and engineers believe in a literal interpretation of the Bible, your numbers shall fall sharply.

rather than believing in god, atheists believe in mankind. they would rather see a hospital built than a church. i do not believe that most atheists would want to prohibit christians from becoming doctors or scientists in any way. contrary to the common misconception, most atheists are mild-mannered people who simply don't associate themselves with any religion (whether they simply don't believe in god, or believe there is no god depends entirely on each individual)

WILL PEOPLE STOP POSTING ALL THIS CRAP SAYING ALL ATHEISTS ARE AGAINST CHRISTIANS.
You are so ignorant, and you are an embarrassment to Christians and atheists alike. Most atheists are all for Christians learning about science. You stupidly assume we all think alike, and you are describing a very small group of atheists. We don't think Christians are against science. We think they are against EVOLUTION and the BIG BANG, two small sections of the large scientific world.
Stop posting this crap. I'm sick and tired of it.
