Because it is NYC, and they can be. I'm going there next month for a few days to do the touristy thing, and i'm finding everything outrageous from the hotel rooms to the ticket prices for all the things I want to do.

because we are capitalists and we sell to the highest bidder. If you think something is too expensive, there must be someone that is will to pay more of they would lower the price.
